Christian Siriano’s Incredible 2022 Met Gala Designs Nailed the Gilded Glamour Theme
The Project Runway designer created some of the most opulent ensembles at the May 2 New York City fashion spectacular.
The 2022 Met Gala red carpet was filled with a variety of stunning takes on the gilded glamour theme. Of course, Christian Siriano designed a selection of incredible looks for the May 2 event at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Bravo’s Project Runway mentor crafted gorgeous ensembles for celebrities, athletes, and influencers alike that were seen on the Met Gala stairs as well as at the after-parties.
To kick off the night, Normani graced the red carpet in a breathtaking black silk velvet cascading bubble gown with a corseted ruffled bra top. The outfit was made complete with a sculpted black fascinator and green statement earrings that matched the singer’s sparkly green eyeshadow. “The Gilded Age but make it modern!” Christian wrote on an Instagram post that captured his design. He added alongside another snapshot: “No corset needed for QUEEN [Normani] tonight in custom Siriano silk velvet giving you 1875 modernized.”
In a red carpet interview with Vogue, Normani explained more about working with the designer. “I know I can be a bit of a challenge, but we really collaborated on this look,” she said. “I love that he was really willing to go and break the rules — I have my stomach out.”
For British writer Alexa Chung’s Met Gala look, Christian created a custom silk-satin bias drape gown with a high slit, which he described as “silk elegance simplicity.” Chung paired the piece with silver Bravoleb-loved Mach & Mach double-bow pumps and silver jewelry. Later in the night, Christian gushed on Instagram: “It was such a dream to dress Alexa for a moment like this.”
Former professional tennis player Caroline Wozniacki donned a blue two-tone cutout Siriano gown with baby blue puff sleeves. Glittering blue eyeliner and clear eye jewels perfectly complemented the billowing garment.
Christian’s final design for the night: a flouncy high-low ruffle-hem dress for Remi Bader. The content creator topped off her outfit with black elbow-length gloves, black platform heels, and a black hat.
Project Runway is streaming on Peacock and available on the Bravo app.
