Brandon Maxwell Opens Up About Dr. Jill Biden Wearing His Design on a Magazine Cover
The Project Runway judge shared his "surprise, excitement, and gratitude" after seeing the First Lady in his fuchsia dress.
Brandon Maxwell just added another huge accomplishment to his long list of accolades. The Project Runway judge and lauded American fashion designer recently celebrated yet another CFDA nomination and was named Designer of the Year at the American Apparel & Footwear Association's 2020 American Image Awards. And not only did his classic, luxurious designs make an appearance during the presidential inauguration, but he also dressed Dr. Jill Biden for one of her first interviews as First Lady.
2021 has been a landmark year for Brandon and his business — and it's only February. Brandon revealed the exciting news on Instagram after seeing Dr. Biden on the cover of People magazine's latest issue alongside her husband, President Joe Biden, in Brandon's fuchsia, wool crepe sheath dress. On February 3, Brandon took to his feed to share just how much the sartorial honor meant to him.
"I think everyone has a publication that defined their childhood, and growing up in a small town, pre-internet and social media, People was mine," the designer explained. "I’m home in Texas now, and as I left the grocery store last night with a new issue of People," he continued after he shared how special this moment was to him. "I couldn’t have imagined that I would wake up this morning to see the First Lady of the United States wearing our dress on the new cover."
Brandon's star has been steadily on the rise for years, but he always takes time to relay just how grateful he is along the way. "Surprise, excitement, and gratitude would be understatements," he added.
