The color gods have spoken. Pantone Color Institute has revealed its color of the year, and that color is Pantone 16-1546, otherwise known as Living Coral, a peachy-pink-orangey burst of positive energy. The company deemed the hue “sociable and spirited… symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits.”

I have to admit, as much as I’m a fan of this alluring color, I was a little taken aback at first. I tend to equate coral with a certain shade of lipstick my grandmother wore for literally decades, and so I've always thought of it as kind of retro. But the more I thought about it, the more I came to see the light — and that light is definitely a life-affirming shade of orange with a dash of pink!

It has a singular warmth that's timeless and modern at the same time, which makes it supremely appealing. You can be sure you'll see coral everywhere in the new year.
