Jeff Lewis Reveals the Only 3 Foods His Daughter Monroe Will Eat
The Flipping Out designer has a plan to get his 3-year-old to expand her palate.
Jeff Lewis' 3-year-old daughter, Monroe, may be a picky eater, but she is willing to try new foods — for a price.
The Flipping Out designer explained on his Jeff Lewis Live podcast's March 30 episode that amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, he is struggling to maintain supply of his little one's three favorite foods: "eggies," quesadillas, and meatballs.
"She doesn't eat anything else," he explained. "Now we're in a situation where I can't always give her one of three things that she wants to eat."
To develop Monroe's palate, Jeff admitted he isn't above bribing her with a new toy. "She's got an Elsa doll," he explained, referencing one of two lead characters from Disney's animated film Frozen. "She really wants Anna. We bought Anna. Anna is sitting on the [kitchen] island. It's kind of mean. It's sitting in a box staring at her every day. I said, 'If you try five foods, you will get Anna, but you have to try five foods."
So far, it seems the new toy is successfully motivating Monroe to add some foods to her daily diet. "We're at four: chocolate milk, take it or leave it . . Spanish rice, white rice. . . [and a] peanut butter and jelly [sandwich]."
While Monroe is just one new edible item away from her new toy, Jeff doubts Monroe will try broccoli, even for access to the doll. Still, he noted: "She never would have tried this if I wasn't bribing her with Ana."
In addition to opening up about how the pandemic has impacted his ability to stock up on all of his daughter's favorite foods, Jeff explained how the global health crisis has devastated his business. "Half [of my employees] are laid off, half are working from home," he said. "I'll be honest with you, my design business is tanking right now,"
