Here's How Tyra Banks Feels About Naomi Campbell Today
The model also revealed how eating pizza helped her career.
All things '90s are back again—and that includes the infamous Tyra/Naomi feud. The decades-old tension is again making headilnes after Tyra's recent appearance on the Swedish talk show Skavlan. (Fun fact: Fredrik Eklund also appeared on the show.)
Tyra recently popped by to talk her early days of modeling, walking the runway in Paris, and that issue that just won't rest. Make no mistake about it: to this day, Tyra said, she remains "very afraid" of Naomi.
But, she also admitted that the media buzz surrounding her ascent in modeling is partially to blame. "The industry was saying: 'Look out, Naomi Campbell, here comes Tyra Banks. Sit your butt down, this younger one is coming to take your place.' And it was really unfair to her," Tyra allowed. So, while Tyra does not condone Naomi's response—which put Tyra through some of the lowest times of her life—she does understand where the other model was coming from.
We can only assume Tyra's reasoned approach comes from being raised by a strong, smart, amazingly supportive mother. At the point in her modeling career when Tyra started "getting a little thicker—not in the head, but in the butt," she said, she received a list of clients who would no longer work with her.
Bawling, Tyra promised her mom that she would eat only dry salads from their on out. But, her mother had other plans in store. After taking her daughter out to a pizza dinner, Tyra's mom said: "write down every client in this world that likes ass. I'll be damned if my baby starves herself for this industry. So we're going to go where your ass is going." (Preach!) Check out the clip, below.
