These Are the Trends That Will Upgrade Your Fall/Winter Wardrobe, According to Personal Stylists
Plaid blazers for the win.
The pros of online shopping: you have endless style options at your disposal. The cons: being completely overwhelmed with all those choices.
With the weather on the verge of feeling fall-like on the East coast (finally!), The Lookbook drilled three personal stylists at Allume, a new online service that hooks you up with your own personal shopper, on what they have in their shopping bags this season. The fashion pros dish on the biggest trends for Fall and Winter 2017 to help you find some inspiration on your next clothing and accessory spree. Weighing in are Taylor Markel, an LA-based stylist with her own online sustainable boutique; Darby Statz, who blogs at Labels and Lacquer when she’s not working with Allume clients; and San Francisco-based Julia Piccolotto, who transitioned to womenswear after years of working with luxury menswear brands. Read on for major shopping inspiration.
What would be your number one buy for those looking to refresh their wardrobes right now?
Taylor Markel: Tall boots with a block heel! They’re so versatile, I love them underneath a long dress, but they can also easily be thrown over tights or denim for an instantly elevated fall look. I'm also loving the structured boxy plaid blazers that are menswear-inspired.
Darby Statz: My number one clothing buy for fall for those looking to refresh their wardrobe would be plaid blazers or just a few plaid pieces. I am loving everything plaid Zara has right now. A blazer is a staple piece in a wardrobe so I love that the '80s/'90s power blazers are so in right now making it work in casual wear, too.
Julia Piccolotto: Anything cranberry-colored — from overcoats, to pants, boots and purses. You can't go wrong with wearing deep reds where you wouldn't have thought to before. You'll see different hues of burgundy and red everywhere for Fall and Winter 2017.
Are there any statement accessories you’re currently loving?
Taylor: Statement drop earrings, they’re on trend and I don’t see them going anywhere any time soon. They can upgrade a casual outfit from simple to inspired in a flash!
Darby: I’m loving how much hoops are in this fall. You can get a variety of hoops to match any occasion — the bigger the better in my opinion. When it comes to shoes, I'm loving red knee boots. The color is so powerful and a not-so-typical fall warm tone. I'm also loving berets, very French chic!
Julia: Round purses. I love the shape, and it's unique and feminine and something that most of us don't already have in our closet.
What are the biggest denim trends your clients are asking for?
Taylor: I’ve been into crop flare denim for a while, but I love the freshness of wide leg jeans. There’s something effortless and '70s-reminiscent about them.
Darby: When it comes to denim, most of my clients request skinny jeans. So when shopping I really just stick to classic straight leg and skinny jeans in a variety of dark and light tones. For a fun fall accessory, I like adding a statement belt to go with the denim.
Julia: Most of my clients are wanting to venture away from the classic skinny jean but don't want to invest in the cropped flares and patchwork denim that you see on trend this season. I recommend that my clients incorporate a slight flare or bootcut into their wardrobe, its more in line with what's on trend right now but still wearable everyday and flattering on all body types.
