Selena Gomez Used Blue Nail Polish To Broadcast A Secret Message
What does it all mean?
After taking a well-deserved break from the spotlight, Selena Gomez is most definitely back in it. And, she's never looked better. After rocketing to the top of best-dressed lists for her princess-y Prada moment at the American Music Awards, Selena showed up for the premiere of her new Netflix show 13 Reasons Why looking every inch the queen.
Working with superstar stylist Kate Young, Selena selected a metallic cocktail dress from Oscar de La Renta. She also wore shoulder-grazing earrings, a wash of shimmery copper over her eyes, and the thing that got everyone buzzing: a deep blue shade of nail polish.
Yes, the shade is pretty—but it's also had a mystery behind it. The whole thing started when Selena's nail artist, Tom Bachik, posted a photo of the nails with a cryptic message. "To find out what #nailcolor she's wearing watch @netflix new series #13reasonswhy," he teased us.
Ugh. We'll watch the series, but we're not that patient. We needed to know why immediately! So if you're like us, you'll be glad to know that the mystery has already been solved. And—don't worry—you can read all about it without running into any spoilers.
So, thanks to Harper's Bazaar, we can tell you the deal. First, the name of the color is "Endless Blue;" it's by Sinful Colors, and it only costs $1.99. Yep, we'll be needing that!
But, we digress. The reason Tom painted Selena's nails with the striking hue actually has to do with the 13 Reasons plot. The series is based on a novel, which tells the story of a teenager who uses clues to discover why a classmate committed suicide. The clues? Thirteen cassette tapes on which the deceased teen has recorded her story, and those tapes are labeled in blue nail polish.
Though not exactly uplifting, this story sounds deeply intriuging and we're eager to begin our next Netflix binge. But in the meantime, we have a manicure appointment to hit.
