Michelle Obama Is Living Proof That Plaid Needs to Be in Your Wardrobe
She looks amazing in fall's hottest runway trend.
Leave it to Michelle Obama to show us how to wear plaids to the office in a very un-boring way. Obama has been flawless in the post-First Lady outfits department, and this week, she put her own spin on plaid, a key Fall 2017 runway trend.
Here’s what she pulled together for the Obama Foundation Summit 2018 in Chicago, where she surprised a group of high-schoolers with Prince Harry in tow, no less: an avant-garde Stella McCartney blue buttondown with a slightly off-kilter collar (which retails for $645), Michael Kors plaid pants, and topped it all off Jimmy Choo heels.
Then for her onstage appearance, she picked out a ruffled Preen By Thornton Bregazzi dress that incorporates two different kinds of plaids. It somehow manages to be a little '90s grungy while still looking completely pulled-together, and the Prada heels help with that too.
Michelle's stylist Meredith Koop explained the Obama Foundation Summit dress code as "smart casual. Leave your (pant)suits and ties at home -- we're here to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Wear what makes you feel great.” Words to live by, and Michelle looks completely at home in plaid.
