Here's Everything We Know About Ariana Madix & Katie Maloney-Schwartz's Sandwich Shop
The Vanderpump Rules cast members share details on their new venture, Something About Her.
Katie Maloney-Schwartz once jokingly told Tom Schwartz that she wanted to be the "head bitch in charge" of the new bar he's opening with Tom Sandoval. While that plan didn't quite work out, Katie and Ariana Madix may both soon hold that title at their own new establishment, a gourmet sandwich shop.
On the January 4 episode of Vanderpump Rules, Katie explained how the business idea came to life. "Schwartz and I talked about doing a sandwich shop and the whole thing, eventually," she told Lala Kent. "This bar's going to keep him a little tied up for a while. So the other day, Ariana was like, 'I'll f--king do it with you.'" Lala was very into the idea. "It's brilliant," she said.
As we excitedly wait for Katie and Ariana to open their eatery, we rounded up everything we know about the business so far:
The Name
The name for the business will be Something About Her. Although Lisa Vanderpump admitted, "It's not something I would call my sandwich bar," Randall Emmett had a different take. On the show's January 11 episode, he declared, "I like that."
In a recent tweet, Ariana explained why the name isn't sandwich-related: "Tacky sandwich puns are not our vibe."
Their Potential Partners
When Lisa asked if Sandoval and Schwartz are going to be involved, the answer from both Ariana and Katie was a clear no. "We don't work well together," Katie said, before Ariana added, "I don't want Tom involved in what I do. Like, Jay-Z wasn't a partner on [Beyoncé's album] Lemonade."
Although they weren't asking Lisa for an investment, Ariana said with a laugh, "We wouldn't say no if you wanted to." When she went on to ask if Lisa could be their advisor, Lisa quipped: "Well, it seems like that's what I'm doing anyway, right? For free. Where's my percentage?"
At the time, they were actively seeking an approximately $200,000 investment from Randall. In addition to pitching Randall their concept, they also included the potential of his own sandwich, the Randall Emmett Production, to try to seal the deal. "I'm thinking we're just gonna, like, lure investors in with our amazing sandwich ideas," Ariana said in an interview. "So if Randall doesn't bite with the Randall Emmett Production, we might be moving on to, like, maybe the Vanderpumpernickel."
Although Randall and his partners decided to invest $150,000, it seems he may no longer be involved in the eatery following his split from Lala. On the January 18 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, a virtual audience member asked Sandoval and Schwartz if Randall is "still investing" in the business. “I don’t think so,” Sandoval replied, and Schwartz added, “I think they dissolved that, and they’re seeking other investors now.”
The Concept & Design
During their pitch to Randall, Ariana and Katie opened up more about their big ideas. "We want it to feel very unapologetically feminine," they explained. The restaurant may have a "bright pink" front door, and they plan to fill it with plants and greenery.
The vibe, Katie noted on the January 4 episode, will feel "so European," and we expect plenty of eye-catching design details throughout the space. As Ariana told Lisa: "With our place, we want to make a statement."
