Katie & Ariana’s Sandwich Shop Has a Surprising Hollywood Connection: "Really Excited"

There really is something about her and we're learning a bit more about the upcoming sandwich shop owned by Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney.

While Bravoholics eagerly await the Vanderpump Rules Season 11 premiere, they were treated to a Vanderpump Rules special, dubbed “A Decade of Rumors and Lies,” which covers the last 10 years of the cast's lives and gives a look at what's to come in Season 11.

During the special, Katie came over to Ariana's home for a catch-up chat and the pair touched down on some recent developments with their sandwich shop, Something About Her.

During their conversation featured in the special (streaming on Peacock), Ariana brought up the idea of thrift shopping together as Katie noted she was "really excited" to find "cute teacups" for their West Hollywood sandwich shop. 

"Everything has been falling into place with Something About Her," Katie shared during an interview. "We secured our location last September. We got it all redesigned by Jon Hutman who is Nancy Meyers' production designer and we brought Penny Davidi on in a more official capacity to do our menu and be our [Chief Operating Officer]."

Once it’s complete, the Something About Her sandwich shop may look quite familiar to rom-com fans.

On an episode of Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino podcast earlier this year, Katie Maloney revealed details about her exciting business venture with her Vanderpump Rules castmate, Ariana. Katie touched on the overall vision for the space and how it was inspired by a romantic-comedy icon.

“This whole Something About Her [concept], and the vision behind that, was wanting it to be romanticized lunch, à la rom-coms,” she explained on the podcast. “I want to live in a Nancy Meyers movie. So when we were talking about what this place looks like and feels like, I’m like, ‘Well, who does Nancy Meyers’ movies?’”

Katie said she did some research and eventually got in touch with Jon Hutman, the production designer for classic Meyers films like Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated, and The Holiday. Though Katie kept the collaboration details to a minimum, she confirmed the Emmy winner has been assisting with Something About Her’s interior design. And that she couldn’t be more pleased with the progress.

“He’s lovely and amazing and talented and just completely gets and sees the vision,” she continued. “It’s gonna be stunning… It’s really gonna be so beautiful and I cannot wait. Cozy — it’s almost like airy, earthy, romantic.”

Katie and Ariana have been working on Something About Her for a while now and are expected to open the shop "sometime soon" in 2024, according to an interview Ariana shared with BravoTV.com in early December 2023.

The former SURver told Pellegrino that she and her business partner refused to rush the opening, as they wanted to take their time to “crystalize a plan” and consult with financial experts.

Katie also gave listeners an idea of what will appear on the Something About Her menu. She described the food as “gourmet deli” fare that’ll include elevated versions of classic sandwiches. 

“You’re gonna have a traditional turkey, but maybe with a little bit of spice or kick to it; a spicy Italian; I love a good egg-salad sandwich,” she said, before listing off the possible sides and drink options. “We gotta have some seasonal salads we can rotate, depending on the time of year… We wanna do beer and wine. Ariana, she can make a lot of wine-based cocktails. She has the skills for that.”
