Top Chef Alum Tanya Holland Has Some Exciting Restaurant News
Bravo's Top Chef Season 15 competitor Tanya Holland is making not one but two big moves.
It's an exciting time for restaurant news for Season 15 alums of Bravo's Top Chef: After shuttering his Brooklyn restaurants, Chris Scott told us all about his big plans for his new eatery, Birdman Juke Joint. And now, we bring you news from fellow competitor, Tanya Holland.
Chef Tanya has two restaurant openings to celebrate across the country: Her Brown Sugar Kitchen is opening a flagship location in Oakland, California, and a location in the San Francisco Ferry Building. (The reopening in Oakland will come after a six-month hiatus of service since closing in its former West Oakland location on Mandela Parkway.)
She's owned Brown Sugar Kitchen since 2008, serving up her interpretation of soul food — influenced by her family’s southern roots and history of entertaining, in addition to her formal training in France — in the Bay Area.
The Oakland location will seat 85, and will overall embrace a philosophy of diversity and inclusion. Look for favorite dishes to return —including Holland’s buttermilk fried chicken and cornmeal waffles; smoked chicken and shrimp gumbo; and vegetable egg scramble.
The Ferry Building location will offer counter service for quick — but elevated — takeout options for breakfast and lunch on the go.
While exact opening dates and hours of operation for the Ferry Building location are still TBD, the Oakland restaurant is slated for its first service on February 14. Look for breakfast and lunch service off the bat, with plans to open for dinner a few months down the road.
Congrats to Chef Tanya!
