Lydia McLaughlin's Travel Guide to One of Celebrities' Favorite European Destinations (With Personal Pics!)
Vacay like a Real Housewife in one of the world's most glamorous places.
The Real Housewives of Orange County's Lydia McLaughlin is an avid traveler — and she knows how to do it in style too. (Lydia's pro tip for traveling with kids? "Bring a nanny and fly private!")
Just back from a family trip to one of Europe's most stunning destinations — Italy's Amalfi Coast — Lydia shared with Jet Set her pointers a bucket-list trip to the region... and some personal vacation snapshots to boot (all taken by Lydia, her husband, and her eight-year-old son)!
1. Best Place to Stay
"My family loves staying right in the heart of Positano, the Covo dei Saraceni. You are right on the beach and in the middle of everything: the sea, the shops, the restaurants, the action. Plus you have a pool that has maybe one of the best views in the whole world!"
2. Best Sunset Date Night
"Il Saint Pietro. This is also a hotel but they do not allow children, which doesn't work for me with my boys. But you can head there (by water taxi, I recommend) for a sunset Bellini drink. The live music and the most fantastic view while sipping on the fresh peaches from the garden is something you have to experience to fully understand."
3. Best Shopping
"There are many great shopping stops, but the island of Capri is the standout stop for all fashionistas. They have all the name brands and they carry things you can only get overseas. It's paradise on paradise for the fashion-forward ladies!"
4. Best Activity
"You can't go to the Amalfi Coast and not get in the water. From wood boats to charted yachts, Lucibello boat rental is the place to go. My family has been going to them for over 35 years and they treat you like family and get you on the boat of your dreams."
5. What to Order
"The food in Italy is obviously amazing. This region is known for their zucchini pasta and zucchini blossoms. Once you try them, you won't ever order anything else! My mom and I have learned how to make them so we can take a little bit of Italy home with us."
