No One Gives Better Marital Advice Than a Divorced Real Housewife

"I had to play a couple different roles."

By Megan Segura
What Did the Housewives Learn From Their First Marriage?

From experience comes wisdom, and The Real Housewives of New York City have a ton of both. Since they each have a marriage or two under their belt, who better to divulge some of the best lessons they've learned?

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of New York City on Bravo Tuesdays at 9/8c and stream next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

Here are some of the best pieces of marriage advice they had to offer:

1. Leave Your Old Life Behind

Dorinda Medley, who has been married twice, gave a couple pieces of advice. She said, "I learned from my first marriage that you actually do need to leave home mentally and physically and be part of this new life with your new husband." Once you're married it's no longer about doing things the way you were raised or the way your partner was raised. Instead, it's about discovering your own way of doing things as a couple.

2. Play a Couple Different Roles

Dorinda's second piece of advice? "I probably learned that I have to be sort of a lady during the day and a little bit more sexy at night. I had to play a couple different roles, which men like."

3. Be Each Other's Best Friend

That's Luann D'Agostino's advice!

4. Make the Effort

New Real Housewife Tinsley Mortimer is now divorced, but there's one thing she wishes she would have done differently in her marriage.

"I should have cooked more," she says. "I really wish that I had been a better wife to be able to make him even eggs, spaghetti, easy things."

5. Do Not Have Separate Bedtime Hours

Carole Radziwill thinks getting out of sync when it comes to bedtime schedules can lead to bigger problems down the road.

"There is something to be said for pillow talk. It’s like a real thing, and i think it keeps a lot of marriages in tact."

As for Sonja and Ramona, their pearls of wisdom, which you can hear for yourself in the video above, sounded more like warnings than advice...
