Reagan Charleston Explains Why She Didn't Change Her Name After Her Divorce and Remarriage
"It wasn’t a decision I made lightly," the Southern Charm New Orleans mom-to-be said.
Reagan Charleston has started her next chapter following her divorce from Jeff Charleston with her marriage to Reece Thomas and a daughter on the way. However, there's one part of Reagan's former relationship that still remains in her life: the last name Charleston.
Reagan has decided to keep the surname she adopted after marrying Jeff, which you can see in her bio on Bravotv.com and her social media profiles. It's also featured in the name of her eponymous jewelry line.
One fan recently asked Reagan on Instagram why she hasn't changed her last name to Thomas now that she is married to Reece. "Because it’s the professional name I’ve used since 2012, it’s on all of my degrees, my scholarly legal articles are published under the name, I have thousands of clients in the US [and] abroad that know my jewelry by that name, it’s the name I’ve had as I’ve built my career, and Jeff gave me his blessing," Reagan explained. "It wasn’t a decision I made lightly."
Reagan also shared a word of caution to anyone thinking of changing their last name upon marriage. "I’d advise any young professional woman to keep her maiden name," she said. "I didn’t imagine when I was 24 that I’d be getting a divorce when I changed my name."
The Southern Charm New Orleans cast member answered this fan's question in the comments to a post where she shared a video of herself in the hospital eight weeks ago when she thought she would be giving birth to her baby girl prematurely. Reagan and Reece are expected to welcome their daughter on June 18.
"Reagan was already dilated and we had to prepare ourselves for a change of plans. Both girls toughed it out and momma made it like she said she would," Reece wrote in the post. "Now we have a fully developed little girl who could make her big entrance any day now... and bae had time to pack her own hospital bag lol fake eyelashes are not priority. I was panic packing. What can I say."
Reagan added in the post, "I was so nervous this day!! 38 weeks is the milestone we prayed to see! God is good."
The Southern Charm New Orleans Season 2 premiere was the first time fans got a glimpse at Reagan and Jeff's post-divorce relationship (clip above). Reagan further reflected on her split on Twitter after the episode. "For so many years, I hid what I was going through at home [and] what I was feeling. When I stopped hiding my problems, happiness found me," she shared. "Don’t stay in a sad/bad situation [because] other people don’t understand. Life is too short [and] you will miss out on the great stuff!"
