Malia White Shares Where She Stands With Captain Sandy Yawn Ahead of Her Wedding
The Winter House cast member shared whether she will attend her former boss' wedding, and how she views Below Deck Mediterranean's Captain Sandy Yawn.
Captain Sandy Yawn got engaged to her longtime love, Leah Shafer, back in September. (Hear her dish on her engagement in the clip above.) So, which Bravolebrities will be at the wedding? We know of at least one. Sandy's former Below Deck Mediterranean bosun Malia White recently opened up about where she stands with her former boss, and whether she'll be there to watch her walk down the aisle.
When gabbing with Us Weekly, the Winter House cast member said: “I was supposed to officiate [Sandy and Leah's wedding] until someone stole my spot.” However, she still has a seat at the wedding — and wouldn't miss it for the world.
“[I’m] definitely going to the wedding," Malia shared. "Captain Sandy’s always been a mentor and she continues to be and Leah is amazing. We see them quite often, actually.” During the same interview, Malia shared which other yachties she's still in touch with.
“I’m actually having Thanksgiving dinner with [Mzi “Zee” Dempers] and Lloyd [Spencer]," she said before the holiday. "Actually, all of us from season 6 are still very close except for Lexi [Wilson].”
Captain Sandy Yawn opens up about her relationship with Malia White
Sandy had previously spoken to Us Weekly about her relationship with Malia, heaping praise on the former deckhand. “It’s always good to see her. I’m so proud of her,” Sandy told the outlet in 2022. “I thought she would be a great captain [since season 2] because she can address an issue head-on without anger and diffuse it. I witnessed her diffuse conversations and that’s why Malia is going to make a great leader.”

No doubt, Malia will make a great wedding guest too — and Sandy and Leah are bound to have an event for the books. While chatting with PEOPLE at BravoCon 2023, the captain said: “The wedding planning is all on Leah’s lap. She’s figuring it all out, thank God — the location, the flower arrangements, all of it.”
She revealed that she and Leah will tie the knot on a super yacht (where else?) and that they're planning for a super intimate event. Due to the boat's size, "We can only have 55 people," Sandy said. "[Leah's] narrowing it down." In the meantime, Sandy is suit shopping. "I will never wear a dress," she said. "Not in a million years."
