What Britani Bateman Admitted to a Producer About *That* Recording (EXCLUSIVE)
RHOSLC's Britani Bateman doesn't think she did anything wrong by snapping some videos in the sprinter van, but others disagree.
While the women were fighting in a sprinter van (as they're prone to do!) during Season 5, Episode 15 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Angie Katsanevas paused the conversation to call out Britani Bateman for seemingly recording what they were saying on her phone. And while the conversation turned dramatic very quickly, the actress still maintains that she wasn't doing anything bad on purpose.
"I swear on my life, I was not trying to record the girls," Britani said in a confessional.
When a RHOSLC producer pointed out that it was weird that she was taking videos of the back of a seat, she had an excuse ready.
"Why I was recording the back of the seat? It wasn't for a while at all — it was for one second," Britani claimed. "The back of the seat was literally for like a second and a half."
On the subsequent episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City After Show, she talked more about the "emotional" situation and called it "one of the worst experiences of my entire life."
"I mean, if anyone had any proof that I had done anything to hurt anyone on purpose, that would be one thing. But no one did," she said. "Everyone was making the worst assumptions about me."
Why was Britani Bateman recording videos in the sprinter van on RHOSLC?
Britani's excuse, as it still stands, is that she was texting her daughter Olivia and wanted to send her some videos from her trip. As she explained on the RHOSLC After Show, "[Olivia] told me she got 100 percent on a math test and I'm like, 'That's great!' So I'm like, 'Oh I should be taking videos. Like, everyone's taking videos.' So I'm on her, I started to push record — you know how you can send somebody a direct video — and I'm like, 'Oh, that's probably a bad idea.' So I went to the camera ... All of a sudden, Angie's over my shoulder [asking], 'Are you recording us?!'"
Did the RHOSLC ladies go through Britani's phone?
Though Britani offered to let her RHOSLC castmates look through her phone — the deleted albums, hidden albums, and everything — they didn't take her up on it during the RHOSLC episode. Lisa Barlow, however, revealed on the After Show that they did end up going through Britani's phone.
"You let us look through your phone, there was nothing on there, so we looked at text messages with you and Jared [Osmond], we looked at messages with you and your kids, and like, nobody could delete [anything] that fast," Lisa recalled in conversation with Britani. "For me, I was like, 'I'm resolved.'"
