Tom Schwartz Shares Updates on Tom Sandoval, from Their Friendship to How He’s Holding Up
Hear the details Schwartz shared on WWHL as Sandoval continues to navigate his breakup from Ariana Madix.
Tom Sandoval may not be ready to publicly discuss the drama surrounding his breakup from Ariana Madix, but Tom Schwartz is. As a result, he weighed in on several different aspects of the split — including Sandoval's alleged infidelity — during Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on April 6.
Read on for a complete breakdown.
What Tom Schwartz Knew
According to Schwartz, in August, Sandoval told him that he had recently had "a one night stand." As far as Schwartz knew, that was the extent of the infidelity — until January, when Sandoval apparently told Schwartz he was "in love."
"I was flabbergasted," Schwartz said, describing Sandoval as "obsessed" with the affair. "He got lost in the sauce."
Why Tom Schwartz Didn't Come Clean
Schwartz claimed on WWHL that he was "being fed a narrative" that Sandoval had "broken up with Ariana, or attempted to multiple times." He was also telling Schwartz that he was "not happy," and that he and Ariana were "not healthy" and "not intimate."
"He put a lot of people, not just myself, in very compromising situations where our integrity was at stake," Schwartz explained. "He did a good job of placating me. I'm consumed with my own life, my own problems. And he told me he [had] a game plan, he [was] gonna do the right thing. And then he just kind of continued to procrastinate."
Where Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval's Friendship Currently Stands
Schwartz didn't tell Ariana — or anyone, for that matter — about Sandoval's infidelity. Now, he resents him for putting him in such a difficult position and "[taking] advantage" of not just his "kindness," but also the very "high-stakes" problems he was experiencing at the time.
"[I was] about to go bankrupt, my dad almost died, [and] my brother got cancer," Schwartz said. "I'm not morally bankrupt. I was consumed in my own little world. And maybe I should have been more proactive about it, but in my defense, I did tell Tom exactly what he needed to do. He agreed, and then he didn't do it."
Today, Schwartz is still "upset" with Sandoval, but he has no plans to stop being friends with him. As he put it on WWHL, "Tom, I know the whole world hates you, but I'm not gonna abandon you, old buddy. I'm not gonna abandon you."
How the Drama has Affected Schwartz & Sandy's
In that same vein, Schwartz isn't going to stop being business partners with Sandoval. Sharing an update on Schwartz & Sandy's specifically, he explained that the newly-opened bar experienced "a lot of negative blowback" in the beginning, but thankfully, that's no longer the case. "Every time I go in, it's kinda thriving. And people are coming in," Schwartz said. "It's been great."
Good or bad, though, Schwartz said Sandoval isn't exactly in tune with the state of his affairs. "Tom is not realizing — I know he's in shock, he's down, he's like a shell of himself — but he's not realizing the impact this has had on his other ventures — his business, the bar, his band, [and] first and foremost, Ariana, of course. It's bad, man."
How Tom Sandoval's Doing Today
Further elaborating on how his friend's holding up, Schwartz said he has "a sense of profound sadness, rightfully so."
"I'm not trying to evoke any sympathy for Tom. He knows what he did is disgusting [and] he literally could not have handled that affair in any worse possible way," Schwartz continued. "[But] he knows he's a monster for what he did. If you see him, give him a hug. Maybe he doesn't deserve it, but give him a hug. He's down bad."
