Lala Kent Dishes on Her Dating Life and Daughter Ocean
The Vanderpump Rules cast member has gotten real about the difficulties of being a single and sober young mom.
Lala Kent has her hands full between running her Give Them Lala empire, appearing in Vanderpump Rules, and raising her 2-year-old daughter, Ocean Kent Emmett.
It’s safe to say that Lala does it all. And in the midst of it all, she is constantly sharing updates with her fans and followers via her Instagram account — both about Ocean’s milestones and her dating life (when she is feeling particularly generous).

Who is Lala Kent dating?
Although she had a run in with Below Deck Down Under's Captain Jason Chambers at BravoCon 2023, during the “SUR'ving Up the Latest with Vanderpump Rules” panel on November 3, Lala said that she wasn't interested in dating men.
“I only like girls and gays,” she joked.
During a recent Amazon Live, Lala explained why she’s not looking to date at the moment.
“I feel like it’s celebrated very, very heavily when you see a woman go through a really tough breakup, and then get into another relationship,” she said. “It is not celebrated when a woman comes out of something pretty traumatic in a relationship and says, ‘You know what? I’m going to press pause on finding someone.’ It’s almost like the world feels sad for them, and I don’t like it. And I’m starting to let it affect me, and I don’t want it to.”
What is Lala Kent's relationship with James Kennedy?
Although James and Lala are not in a relationship (he’s currently dating his girlfriend, Ally Lewber), during a June 2023 Instagram Q&A session, Lala shared that she considers James to be a soulmate.
“Soulmates come in many forms,” she wrote. “I don’t think that ‘soulmate’ only means an intimate partner. So yes, James is one of my soulmates.”
And in an interview with Rolling Stone, Lala (mostly) joked that she doesn’t picture James as “the stepfather” for Ocean.
Lala Kent on Dating While Sober
Lala marked five years of sobriety in October, but has said that it is "awkward" being both sober back in the dating game, as she told BravoTV.com in February 2023.
“I haven’t flirted with a boy since I was, like, 25 years old — and I was usually liquored up, so I was great at it," she said.
On the Season 10 premiere of Vanderpump Rules, Lala explained more of her thinking. “This is the first time in my life that I have been single and sober," she said. "The thought of just meeting any guy and being like, ‘We’re gonna do this!’ — I don’t have anything to kind of lube me up.”
“It really freaks me out,” she added.
Thankfully, Lala hasn't been navigating singlehood alone. She dubbed Katie Maloney — who was also newly single when they shot Season 10, after her divorce from her ex-husband, Tom Schwartz — her “wingwoman” at BravoCon 2022, going on to add, “I love this Katie. She’s living in her truth, and I just feel like we deserve to be happy and if something’s not working, whether it’s been 5 years or 12 years, you gotta let it go. So we’ve been having a lot of fun.”
Lala Kent’s Daughter, Ocean Kent Emmett
Ocean, meanwhile, is taking after her namesake. Lala has shared so many photos of her daughter with her at the pool and hanging out at the beach where Lala “used to play at her age.” Ocean is also following in her mom’s footsteps, having walked the red carpet with Scheana Shay’s daughter, Summer Moon, at the premiere of Hot Wheels™: Ultimate Challenge in May 2023.
Lala also revealed to BravoTV.com in February 2023, “She’s going potty on the to-to by herself. She says, ‘Mama, potty!’ then she takes off her diaper off and goes, and it is like the best thing ever.”
Not only that, but Ocean has apparently taken a liking to high-fives and saying “Yay!” a lot.
The little girl has also been enjoying her monthly Disneyland visits, already has her first (toy) G-Wagon, and has been asking for a baby brother.
And, as it turns out, Lala has said their could be plans for a sibling for Ocean in the works.
In June 2023, Lala told BravoTV.com that she wants to move forward with “securing sperm for a[nother] baby.” “That sounds so horrible,” she said. “But that’s the route we’re taking.”
