Kristen Doute Compares Her Breakup with Tom Sandoval to Ariana’s and Weighs In on All the Drama
The Vanderpump Rules alum also addressed her own history of cheating.
Vanderpump Rules alum Kristen Doute appeared on the May 3 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and made sure to give her take on all the Season 10 drama — namely, Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix’s breakup, as well as his infidelity involving Raquel Leviss.
Kristen’s Initial Reaction to Tom and Raquel’s Affair
Like the rest of the Vanderpump Rules cast, Kristen said she started to hear rumors about her ex-boyfriend and Raquel several months ago. However, she was still “completely shocked” when the full extent of the affair was exposed and Tom and Ariana split as a result.
Explaining how she was able to dismiss the initial gossip, she told Andy Cohen, “Honestly, what I thought was that [Tom] Schwartz and [his former female roommate] Jo [Wenberg] were hanging out, and the only friends they had were Tom and Raquel. The four of them were constantly hanging out. But it did start to make me feel a little weird. I’m like, this looks like a double date.”
Kristen and Tom’s Split vs. Ariana and Tom’s Split
As Andy pointed out, a “small contingency” of viewers claim that Ariana should’ve seen all this coming since she “allegedly [began] a relationship with Tom when [he and Kristen] were still dating.”
Kristen, who’s now one of Ariana’s “close” friends, is in strong disagreement, though. “I’m the one who gets to say this — nobody else’s opinion matters — it is not the same thing,” she said, comparing the two breakups. “[Ariana] didn’t deserve it. Not at all.”
What’s more, Kristen doesn’t feel “vindicated” by the split. As she put it, “Tom and I were together almost six years, [but] we should’ve broken up after a year or two. He and Ariana have been together almost a decade — they own a home together.”
Kristen’s Thoughts on Tom’s “Excuses”
In a sneak peek of Vanderpump Rules Season 10, Episode 14, set to air on May 10, Tom and Ariana are seen discussing their relationship issues, and at one point he says he wants them “to be more intimate.” Kristen, however, said he’s simply “using the lack of intimacy with Ariana as an excuse for cheating.”
What’s more, a separate preview for the Season 10 finale, set to air on May 17, shows Tom telling Scheana Shay, “I was going to break up with Ariana regardless.”
Kristen’s response? “Be a man,” she said on WWHL. “If you wanna break up, break up.” (Scheana, meanwhile, fired back, “But you didn’t. You f-cked her best friend instead.”)
Kristen’s Response to Tom’s Apologies
Tom publicly apologized to Ariana as part of an Instagram statement and has expressed his regret over his actions in several interviews. However, Kristen remains unsatisfied. “Why can’t you just say ‘I’m sorry,’ not ‘I’m sorry, but there was this…’ and ‘It was her fault…’ and ‘This is why…’ Just say, ‘I’m sorry. I’m a trash human being.’ And then when you’re better, show it.”
Kristen’s Explanation of Her Past Cheating
Andy read a viewer-submitted question asking how Kristen can “judge” Tom and Raquel when she herself has cheated, to which she responded, “It was 12, 13 years ago. Everyone just get on, move past it. I also apologized, and as you know, I sat in the mud for almost two years begging for [forgiveness] and waiting for my actions to speak louder than my words.”
