Katie Maloney Says She and Schwartz Spoke About Not Dating "Within Our Friend Group"
The Vanderpump Rules cast member made the reveal after alluding to the rumors about her ex-husband and Raquel Leviss.
Reflecting on her split from Tom Schwartz on the You're Gonna Love Me podcast, Vanderpump Rules' Katie Maloney revealed that she and her ex had at one point discussed how they would go about dating once they were no longer together.
"The only thing that Tom and I talked about was just, like, maybe we just don’t date within our friend group," Katie told her guest, Summer House's Lindsay Hubbard. Then, seemingly referencing the rumors about Tom and Raquel Leviss "making out" at Scheana Shay and Brock Davies' August wedding in Mexico, Katie added, "It’s one thing when you’ve been, for the entirety of the group of friends, you’ve been a couple and married. Then to break up and then started dating within that group just feels a little toxic."
Tom and Raquel haven't said that they're dating or even confirmed that they hooked up — though Raquel did admit in October that they "have a little flirty, friendly connection that's lighthearted and fun" — but speculation intensified after James Kennedy called the pair out at BravoCon 2022.
His comments came when Andy Cohen asked Raquel if, post-breakup, she was ever "nervous" about James and Lala Kent "possibly reigniting things." Responded Raquel, “I don’t know, for some reason I kind of ship the idea of James and Lala."
James’ response? “Now she says that, after she’s, like, made out with Peter [Madrigal] and Schwartz. Like, cool."
Raquel and Tom both laughed off the remark in the moment, but Tom later admitted that he "kind of shut down" because it was so "awkward." As for Peter, Raquel previously confirmed that she had indeed gone on a date with him earlier this year.
That wasn't the only drama to come out of BravoCon 2022, though. Raquel opted to wear a Tom Tom sweatshirt while attending a few of the weekend's events, and Katie later called her "a fan girl" as a result. An online back-and-forth between Katie and Raquel ensued, and Tom himself recently weighed in on the matter.
"I stay out of it," he said. "I care for Raquel a lot and Katie’s my girl. I love her. We spent more than a quarter of my life together, so I have a lot of respect and love for her. But she can be very reactive and I haven’t had a lot of time to process that yet."
Lindsay also gave her take on Katie's podcast, admitting she was "shocked" by Raquel's decision to wear the sweatshirt. "She knew you were gonna be there, she knew Tom Schwartz was gonna be there," Lindsay told Katie. "I just think it was a little bit of a slap in the face. Like showing up, on purpose to an event with you. What was the point of that? What kind of message are you trying to send, to show up in your ex-husband’s sweater?"
