Go Behind the Scenes at James Kennedy’s Stagecoach DJ Set
The Vanderpump Rules cast member performed the “secret set” with Dee Jay Silver.
This weekend marked a career first for James Kennedy.
The Vanderpump Rules cast member took to Instagram on Sunday, April 30, to announce his “secret” DJ set at the 2023 Stagecoach Festival. James confirmed the gig would go down inside the Jameson tent, where he would spin alongside one of Nashville’s most prominent music producers.
“Special first time B2B set with [Dee Jay Silver],” he captioned an event flyer that listed him as a special guest.
B2B is an acronym for “back to back” and refers to a set in which two or more DJs perform together using the same turntable. James was understandably stoked about the opportunity and shared behind-the-scenes footage of what went down during the big day. Shortly before hitting the DJ booth, the U.K. native posted an Instagram Story that showed him and his girlfriend, Ally Lewber, riding in a golf cart along with Silver.
“Let’s go!” he said in the clip, “Jameson tent, 3 o’clock! Wooo! Stagecoach, baby!”
Vanderpump Rules’ Scheana Shay and her husband, Brock Davies, also attended the three-day festival and stepped out to support their castmate. The Scheananigans podcast host and former SURver uploaded a video of James and Silver behind the booth while playing Dena Deadly’s “Raise Your Glass,” the iconic theme song for Vanderpump Rules. The footage showed James hyping the crowd as they sang along and, well, raised their glasses.
The set also included Fat Joe’s “What’s Luv?” featuring Ashanti and Ja Rule, DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win,” and PinkPantheress’ “Boy’s a Liar.” James’ final post of the night was a photo of himself drenched in sweat alongside Silver. “Epic,” he captioned the Story.
The evolution of James’ music career has been well documented on Vanderpump Rules. Since joining the cast for Season 3 in 2015, James has worked his way up from being a SUR busboy to becoming the restaurant’s in-house DJ with a weekly event. James has gone on to perform at venues and concerts all around the world, including the 2022 Imagine Festival, where he opened for Kaskade. James discussed the milestone gig in the April 26 episode of Vanderpump Rules.
“It’s kind of surreal. Like, I’ve done my fair share of nightclubs, you know, but this is the first music festival,” he said in an interview. “I’m opening for Kaskade. This has gotta be, like, 30,000 people, 50,000 people. For those of you that’ve been sleeping under a rock, Kaskade is a legendary music producer, DJ, songwriter, so to open up for someone on his level is massive, a dream come true.”
Kaskade shared the clip on his Instagram page and thanked James for the kind words.
“Hey [James Kennedy] thanks for the props on [Vanderpump Rules],” he wrote. “Glad to be a part of making your dreams come true!”
