Why Are Todd Tucker and Mama Joyce Getting Along Now?
Kandi Burruss reveals the two major life events that changed this #RHOA family's dynamic.
It's not uncommon to have some conflict with your in-laws, but that used to be an understatement for Kandi Burruss' husband, Todd Tucker, and her mom, Joyce Jones (who is lovingly known as Mama Joyce). It seemed like Mama Joyce had been on bad terms with Todd, as well as his late mother, Sharon Wells, since the moment they met.
But lately it seems like there's been little to no mama drama in the Burruss-Tucker household, and Kandi confirmed during Sunday's Watch What Happens Live After Show that things are still all good between Todd and Mama Joyce. The Real Housewives of Atlanta music mogul attributes this major shift in their relationship to a couple of big life events. "Well, I think there were two turning points. After we got married, she just kind of accepted the fact that it's done now. So she started getting better," Kandi explained (clip above). "But then, unfortunately when Todd's mom passed away, then that was a real wake-up call to say we can't trip up about the little things. Everyone needs to get on the same page. It needs to be more love in our family and not drama."
Kandi went on to say that there was an overwhelming amount of support for Todd after his mother's death in late 2014. "Everybody wanted to be there for Todd," Kandi said. "With his mom, it was just the two of them growing for so long, and we had to really come around him and be there for him at that time."
Married to Medicine's Dr. Jackie Walters, who is Kandi's OBGYN, added another milestone that she thinks helped bring Todd and Mama Joyce closer together during the WWHL After Show. "The day that the baby was born, they connected," she said. "That was like an embrace. It looked like they became family."
