'The Fashion Show' Finalists Promise Jaw-Dropping Finale
Designers get personal for final runway showdown.
Yesterday we talked to this season's The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection finalists about their journey so far, but today I've got a little bit of intel about what you can expect in tonight's fashionable finale.
Besides the usual panel of greatness, the final three -- Dominique Pearl David, Jeffrey Williams, and Calvin Tran -- told me the finale's celeb judge Mary J. Blige will have you as floored as the designers' desires.
"She's literally flawless," Jeffrey said. "Like I wanted to peel her skin off and put it on."
As if that's not ringing endorsement enough, the finalists each commended the R&B heavyweight's very positive and very authentic criticisms.
Besides who's going to be there, the designers shared a little bit of info about their individual collections.
Considering Jeffrey's signature dusters and unisex style, one might expect a spacey, futuristic inspiration. Instead it's a highly personal past that informed his final looks.
"I really wanted to make sure it was something I believed in. I didn't want to just try to come up with a theme or come up with a color," Jeffrey said. "I felt like throughout this whole competition a lot of the strength and a lot of the patience and everything that I went through I pulled from my mother, and so I used that as my inspiration." Drawing on her favorite shades -- red and fuchsia -- her peaceful demeanor and ultimately her strength, Jeffrey's collection has a self-described "monastic feeling" to it, that has our curiosity piqued.
Also feeling the Zen is Dominique, who was inspired by the new found-fearlessness she had been commended for throughout the season.
"I kind of drew this inspiration of silence and chaos, and this silent and quiet girl that I started from," Dominique mused. "And the kind of chaos that was going on, and the stuff that I learned for myself."
The California native also admits to dipping into an Empire State of Mind for another layer of the designs.
"And it's also this kind of 'lonely girl in the city,' because I always dreamed of being in New York, and dressing this really chic New York girl."
While Jeffrey and Dominique reflected on their personal journey's Oprah-style for inspiration, Calvin opted to turn his usual ideals on their head.
"I'm trying to do like anti-Calvin Tran. Go more minimalistic, and strip down everything. No more drama, no more accessories—just make it simple."
See the final collections on the runway, and find out who wins tonight, at 10/9c.
