Teresa and Joe Giudice Finalize Their Divorce After 20 Years of Marriage
The Real Housewives of New Jersey couple's marriage has officially come to an end.
Teresa Giudice and Joe Giudice have finalized their divorce, The Daily Dish has confirmed.
“This is obviously the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for both Joe and Teresa as individuals," Giudice family attorney James J. Leonard Jr. said in a statement. "They remain committed to continuing to raise their four amazing daughters and co-parent as they have for the last few years.”
Teresa and Joe tied the knot on October 23, 1999. They have four children together, daughters Gia, 19, Gabriella, 15, Milania, 14, and Audriana, 10.
Teresa and Joe decided to separate when she and their daughters visited him in Italy in November 2019 following his release from ICE custody, which viewers witnessed during Season 10 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey (clip above). But even before then, Teresa made it clear that she was not interested in a having long distance relationship with Joe, sharing that she "probably wouldn't" follow her husband to Italy if he were ultimately deported. Joe's latest appeal in his deportation case was denied in April 2020.
The two seemed to agree that a relationship where they both couldn't physically be together probably wouldn't work or be the best thing for their daughters as they discussed the future of their marriage on The Real Housewives of New Jersey Special Event: Joe and Teresa Unlocked in October 2019. Teresa also noted how they had both changed amid their legal issues over the past several years during that conversation with Andy Cohen. "We're both two different people now. I don't know, I'm not the same Teresa I was, and I know he's not the same Joe," Teresa said. "Like I told him, no matter what, I always want us to respect each other and I do love him as a person."
Joe shared a similar sentiment during that discussion. "She's my wife, and I've been with her for a long time. I've known her since she was a kid, a little baby actually, so I mean, of course, yeah, I'll always love her," he said. "No matter what happens, I'll always love her."
Teresa confirmed during the RHONJ Season 10 reunion that she was "working" on the divorce papers, but added, "It seems like [Joe is] procrastinating.” Her brother, Joe Gorga, shared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: @ Home in April that the paperwork for the divorce was "almost done."
Joe shared an update on his relationship with Teresa as they went through the process of ending their marriage in an interview with Extra in July. "We get along fine. We talk a lot. Every time I talk to the kids, I talk to her as well and see what's going on, make sure everything's good," he said. "Relationship's good. It's unfortunate what happened, but you can't change what's done."
