During The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5, Episode 2, Heather Gay and Britani Bateman hit the courts for a friendly game of pickleball. Speaking of fashion-forward racquet sport moments, Heather served collegiate vibes with a crewneck, pleated skirt, and a white bow in her hair. Britani went for an alpine sporty-chic vibe in silver leggings and a coordinated cropped puffer.
As the women geared up to play, they realized neither Britani nor Heather actually knew how to start. This led to an amazing (and rare!) fourth wall-breaking moment from one of the show's producers.
"You have to start behind the line!" someone advised off-screen.
"You do?" Britani replied, shocked. Earlier in the scene, Britani had explained that her parents actually had a pickleball court added to their backyard, but that it's really her mom who is the afficianado. Luckily, the producers had enough knowledge of the game to get the ladies started. Once they figured things out, the duo was ready for a friendly, low-impact game with a side of some requisite girl talk.
Britani mentioned she thought Heather's video invitation to an outdoorsy "team bonding event" for the ladies was "so cute," and the two agreed that their crew could use it after the drama of Lisa's Besos party. Next, the topic of conversation turned to how things were with Britani's on-again, off-again beau.
"I'm Mormon, but I've been married and divorced twice," the actress said in an interview during the episode. She went on to explain that she met her boyfriend when her ex-husband began dating his ex-fiancee. The "friendship turned into a romance," thanks to a little "trauma bonding" between the two about how their former partners were together.
However, the two have "broken up 16 times," Britani joked, adding that they "always get back together."
"We just can't seem to stay broken up," she said with a shrug and a smile. Then she asked Heather about her romantic life, and the author was as candid as ever.
"I just feel like my life is finally going in a direction that I like, recognize and like," Heather answered, "Why would I want to screw that up with a man?"
The two then talked about how despite Britani's romantic struggles in the past, she still hasn't lost her "zest for love."
"I wonder what that's about," she mused out loud, to which Heather replied, "Patriarchy!"
