The Real Housewives of Potomac's Mia Thornton confirmed in a statement on Sept. 29 that she and her husband, Gordon Thornton, have "separated" after over a decade of marriage.

Mia shared the news about the state of her marriage in a statement on Sept. 29, adding that she is putting her family first as they "figure things out."
"Like all marriages, ours has had its ups and downs," Mia told PEOPLE in a statement on Friday. "At this time, Gordon and I are separated, but my family is my number one priority, and I am committed to doing whatever it takes to make sure we are okay."
She added, "We ask that you respect our privacy and give us the time and space to figure things out."
The news comes after Mia marked Gordon's 71st birthday with an Instagram message earlier this month.

Mia has looked into getting a divorce attorney, but she's choosing to go to couples therapy first," a press release for the new season notes. "She's also trying to get back to a better place with Karen, but rumors get in the way."
