Mia Thornton Reveals “Tension” in Her Marriage to Gordon Thornton Before Their Separation
The Real Housewives of Potomac cast member is shedding light on new details that led to her split from her estranged husband.
In September, Mia Thornton confirmed that she and her husband, Gordon Thornton, had separated after 11 years of marriage. Ultimately, the spouses decided to part ways after dealing with various "changes" in their union, which viewers have witnessed play out on Season 8 of The Real Housewives of Potomac.
On Season 8, Episode 5, Mia and Gordon attended a couples therapy session, where she shockingly revealed her decision to seek advice from a divorce attorney. Mia told her therapist, “Things were getting to a point where [she] actually had retained a divorce attorney because [she] was going to be filing for divorce."
What’s more, on episode 7 of RHOP, which aired on December 17, Mia and Gordon opened up about another strain they faced in their relationship.

While on Facetime, Gordon informed Mia he had been contacted by their business lawyer, who provided an update on their financial issues with their former business partners.
“Hey babe, I didn’t want to bother you with this, but our attorney emailed me,” Gordon told Mia, adding that they were in the middle of an "update" on the issue. Although Gordon didn't mention any additional details about their legal matters, Mia did reveal in a confessional that the situation had been taking a toll on their marriage.
“It is causing tension inside of our marriage," Mia said. She also shared that she just wanted to “leave the past behind,” but Gordon feels otherwise.

Mia and Gordon are in a good place in their co-parenting relationship. They share two kids: a son, Jeremiah, and a daughter, Juliana. Mia and Gordon also each have a child from previous relationships.
On Thanksgiving, both Mia and Gordon celebrated the holiday with their kids. “B L E S S I N G S,” Mia captioned her November 23 Instagram post, which included a “co-parenting” hashtag.
Two weeks later, while appearing on the December 10 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Mia gave another update on his co-parenting situation with her estranged husband.
"Kids are great," she said in the Bravo clubhouse. "We're co-parenting very well. We are communicating well, contrary to public belief."
