Marysol Patton proclaimed in the opening moments of Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Miami, "Hey [f--kers], bet you never thought you'd see me again." That sense of humor and irreverence has marked much of the Marysol that fans are seeing in the current season of RHOM, streaming on Peacock. But, that lightness comes after some personal lows — and in a recent interview with Bravo Insider, Marysol opened up more about her journey.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Miami on Peacock and the Bravo App.

Coming into Season 4, having already dealt with some difficult experiences like the loss of her parents, including her beloved Mama Elsa in 2019, Marysol felt like she could show a lighter side of her personality to fans. "I had a lot of things happen in my life that changed the circumstances of my reality when I was filming eight years ago. And so I think it helped to peel a layer of a kind of, like, a shield that I have. Because I was, I have an important business I was running and employees and sick parents. And just everything was a concern that I couldn’t do anything to damage what was going on. And now all those things are gone. And so it’s me being me. This is the person I’ve always been," she said, adding with a laugh, "I’m just letting everyone else see it, that’s all."

Still, Marysol struggled to get to the place she is in today after some personal turmoil, including a breakup, in addition to her parents passing away. "So I was literally sitting around for three years licking my wounds, and I thought, 'You know what? I have to keep going.' You know, my parents lost their parents and kept going. It’s survival. You either let it eat you up or you keep going," she shared. "And I wasn’t going through anything different than anybody else isn’t gonna go through. I said that to myself, 'Marysol, you can’t let this get you down, everybody goes through breakups and deaths, and that’s it.' And so, you know, those are the things that happened. "

Still, it wasn't easy to get to that place, and Marysol has a method for dealing with the stressors around her that she wishes she had when she first started sharing her life with the world back in Season 1 of RHOM.

"I mean, you can’t sweat the small stuff and what bothers you today will not be bothering you tomorrow. And you don’t even have to let it bother you today, because it’s all how you digest information and how much you want to let it bother you," she said. "The moment I start — and it doesn’t happen often that I feel a little bothered or sad about anything [and] it could be anything — I’m like, stop. You’re only here for who knows how long, and you need to be grateful," she said. "You know, grateful for everything around you. And all of a sudden, I’m happy again. And it’s all how you process information. I learned how to process information and not let things hurt me."

And if you think you see glimpses of Mama Elsa in Marysol these days, you're not the only one. "I remember seeing Adriana [de Moura] a few times during filming, she said, 'God, you just sounded like your mother. Gosh, you’re reminding me of your mother,'" Marysol recalled. "I’m like, 'I do?' 'Cause [Adriana] was the one that first started saying that to me, and now everyone else says it. So I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree [laughs]."

After all those ups and downs, Marysol did also find love again. She married Steve McNamara in Tulum, Mexico back in April 2021. And there was a special reason why she knew he was the one.

"Well, I think last time, the last two times, I made the choices. This time my parents made the choice for me," she said. "And every day, I’m like, 'Man, Mom, Dad, you nailed it. You guys nailed it.' I would, probably, would have never picked him, but there was a greater force in the universe at work. I know that I’m with the right person. He’s very kind and good to me. He knows how to be a husband."

So, what is Marysol looking forward to next? Well, not aging, but she has a sense of humor about it, naturally. "Marysol really needs to figure out how to stop getting so old. I look in the mirror. I’m like, 'Where, where is Marysol? And who are you looking back at me?' [laughs] It’s hard, man," she said.

And Marysol does know that she wants to continue living her best life with her husband, adding, "I just want to make sure that he stays healthy and I stay healthy so we can keep continuing to be together and enjoy each other’s company."

New episodes of RHOM are available on Thursdays exclusively on Peacock, where fans can also catch up on Seasons 1 through 3.
