Dr. Nicole Martin Explains Why She Finally Decided to Get Married
The RHOM cast member also reveals whether the other 'Wives played a role in her decision to tie the knot.
Dr. Nicole Martin is sharing all the juicy details about her relationship with her fiancé, Anthony Lopez. The Real Housewives of Miami cast member, who recently celebrated her engagement to her longtime partner, opened up about why she finally came around to wanting to walk down the aisle.
During her February 16 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen alongside The Real Housewives of Orange County's Heather Dubrow, host Andy Cohen read a viewer's question wanting to know "what changed" for the RHOM cast member to consider marriage, given that Nicole and Anthony "were so adamant about not being married" throughout Season 4 of RHOM. The fan also asked if "all the questioning" from the other Miami Housewives about the buzzy topic put pressure on Anthony to propose.
Nicole mentioned that she had previously addressed the subject of marriage in an interview during an episode earlier this season of RHOM. At the time, she was asked what she'd say if Anthony were to ever propose. "I always said I would say 'yes,'" Nicole told Andy in the Clubhouse, adding, "For us, it was just not a priority. You know, we had both been married before, and there were other things that were more important to us than getting married. We wanted to have a family, we wanted to build our home, we wanted to establish our careers. So, I think, now the dust has settled on all those things, and the timing just felt right."
Heather also chimed in on the matter, saying, "I mean, having a kid is the ultimate commitment," to which Nicole replied in agreement, "Yeah, the ultimate commitment!"
In addition to prioritizing parenthood and raising their little boy, Greyson, Nicole further explained her decision-making around marriage with Anthony in a recent interview with The Daily Dish. "You know, honestly for me, it wasn't really that anything changed. It was never about being pro-marriage or anti-marriage," she said. "For me, it was just about being happy no matter what our situation was, you know?"
Nicole went on to add, "I was super happy and had a great relationship before he proposed. And we're still happy and have a great relationship after he proposed. And if he would have never proposed, I would be 80 years old, still with Anthony, you know? So for me, it just doesn't define our relationship."
The bride-to-be also noted to The Daily Dish how she had always been open to the idea of marriage, doubling down on what she previously stated during an interview in an episode, saying, "So, it was always something that I would say 'yes' to. I just didn't really care if he asked or if he didn't, to be honest."
Now that Nicole and Anthony are officially engaged, fans have wondered whether party planner extraordinaire, Guerdy Abraira, will be called on for the couple's future nuptials.
"No, I love her too much," Guerdy said during her February 15 WWHL appearance (clip below). "I want to keep her friendship."
Nicole also shared in her interview with The Daily Dish whether she'd be using Guerdy's party-planning services for her wedding, and she seemed to be in agreement with her friend on the matter.
"I think Guerdy is an incredible wedding planner, event planner. I personally, though, don't like to mix business," she said. "I value Guerdy's friendship far too much than to get into an argument over flowers or napkin colors or something silly. So I like to keep my friends and business far apart."
New episodes of RHOM are available on Thursdays exclusively on Peacock, where fans can also catch up on Seasons 1 through 3.
