Is Niall Horan's New Solo the Beginning of the End of One Direction?
The guys of 1D have been keeping busy on their own projects these days.
While you may be feeling a little nostalgic for the days that the fellas in One Direction were all going in the same direction, the former fivesome-turned-foursome are chugging along with solo efforts. Eighteen months after Zayn Malik officially bid the band farewell, Niall Horan has released his first solo track. Titled "This Town," the song is reminiscent to 1D's folky pop style, versus the slick R&B tunes that Zayn opted for during his post-1D life.
Let's never forget: Zayn was the first to make that move. He released his solo effort, Mind of Mine, just in time to mark his one-year anniversary of bidding the band hasta la vista back in March. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. When he's not singing he's been spending plenty of time with his IRL GF and "Pillowtalk" co-star Gigi Hadid. He's also managed to talk some smack about his former group.
While it's unclear how permanent a break the remaining four members of 1D are on, there's no questioning how dedicated they are to spreading their wings outside of the group's mega success. Louis Tomlinson hasn't just been expanding his business (he has a record label imprint, and popped up assisting the judges on on America's Got Talent), but he's also growing his family. In January, he welcomed a son, Freddie, and has been campaigning to be the world's greatest DILF since then.
Liam Payne has been busy making us all super jealous by romancing U.K. pop star Cheryl Cole, and he recently amped up speculation that his own batch of solo tunes may drop sooner rather than later. Until then, we imagine, he'll just be working on those abs.
Oh, and then there's Harry Styles. In addition to starring in the 2017 flick, Dunkirk, he also recently teased that he's been in the studio (according to Vulture). And did we mention he's also been jumping on the choker bandwagon? Clearly, Harry does not want to disappoint us.
You could say we're pretty excited for everything the guys are working on these days.
