We Have a Major Update on Dr. Contessa and Dr. Scott’s Marriage: “The Rest Is History, in a Good Way”
The pair revealed where they are today, as Dr. Contessa prepped for a new chapter in her life, as seen in the Married to Medicine Season 9 premiere.
Tensions were running high between Dr. Contessa Metcalfe and Dr. Scott Metcalfe as Season 8 of Married to Medicine came to a close. In fact, at the reunion it was revealed that she had even filed for separation. But the couple was in a completely new place when Season 9 of Married to Medicine premiered on July 10.
“This year, it’s a brand-new Contessa. When we came back from New York [from the reunion], I felt like our relationship was hopeless. I did,” she said in an interview in the episode. “I felt like we had exhausted all options, and I did not want to continue to be in this hamster wheel. We talked to the children about we are going to get divorced. I had the Realtor. We were gonna sell the house. Scott would not sign the listing paperwork, and he said that instead of doing that he’s gonna go to therapy, and that’s what happened. And the rest is history, in a good way.”
(You can hear more from the couple in the exclusive video, above.)
In the episode, Dr. Scott joined his wife for an interview, noting, “We’re both sitting right here, so there definitely has been some benefits to therapy, ’cause I think without it, she’d be in here by herself right now.”
“I one hundred thousand percent think therapy is working,” she said, to which Scott added, “We definitely have been fighting less, or how about we’ve been fighting fair. It’s not as intense or volatile as before.”
There’s also a new chapter for Dr. Contessa in her own journey, as she was training for a fitness competition in the episode. “I’ve always said I was gonna do it, and quite frankly, I’ve run out of excuses,” she said of starting this new era in her life. She later reflected on her prior beauty pageant experience as a sort of inspiration for this chapter.
“The Miss Missouri pageant was like my last hurrah before going into the military. I want my Miss Missouri USA pageant body back,” she said. “Not that I’m trying to be single and ready to mingle or anything like that, but if I did end up in a situation where, you know, I have to start a new life, I think I’ll be well equipped.”
