Curtis is a former NBA player turned high school basketball coach. According to his LinkedIn profile, he served as the Head Varsity Basketball coach at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School for more than 12 years. For the past six years, he has been working as the owner of BW Properties, a real estate company.
How Long Have Dr. Jackie and Curtis Been Married?
There’s no word on exactly how they met, but they have been married for 21 years. Dr. Jackie and Curtis tied the knot in 2002 and have conquered a lot together. Dr. Jackie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and then again in 2008. That left her with infertility issues despite her desire to give her husband a son.
Why Did Jackie and Curtis Almost Divorce?
The couple came close to divorcing in 2017 when it was revealed that Curtis had cheated.
News of the affair first broke when photos of Berry with another woman went viral. The mistress told RadarOnline that she was unaware Berry was married until their affair was made public. As reported by Bravo TV's The Daily Dish, Dr. Jackie was at work when she first learned that her husband had been unfaithful.
"When you're seeing patients and you're walking into an exam room and you find out on an iPad that your husband's name is on the blog, you still take care of the patient if you're like me and you do what you got to do and you go, 'OK,'' she confessed to fellow reality star Kandi Burruss on an episode of Kandi Koated Nights. "You're traumatized initially but I think as a professional, you got to keep doin' what you got to do."
On Season 5 of Married to Medicine, Dr. Jackie decided not to shy away from their troubles and address it head-on. Ahead of that season, she told PEOPLE that the one thing she did decide was that she wasn’t going to take any of her husband’s choices and blame herself for them.
“I have refused to own any rights to that choice that Curtis made,” she said. “I firmly think infidelity damages a relationship because there are a host of conditions and qualifications and considerations that you have to go through and ask, ‘What is it that got my significant other to that place?’ So, I own none of it. Infidelity to me is a choice. I cannot make you make a choice. You choose to respond; nobody made you respond that way.” She did focus on forgiving herself by working on self-love and self-consideration. Jackie later revealed that his time as an athlete, coupled with his newfound fame on the show, may have led to his infidelity. ” The public persona totally adds to it," she said.
"Curtis was an athlete before, but I certainly think the exposure of being on TV and [women thinking], 'Maybe he got a whole lot of money I can get' [may have contributed]," she added.
After the turmoil, the couple decided to reconcile. Jackie even told Andy Cohen in a 2018 episode of Watch What Happens Live that they were sharing a bed again. Since then, they have both been working on the marriage and seem to be in a good place.
Do Dr. Jackie and Curtis Have Any Kids?
Curtis has a daughter Kursten from a previous marriage. She and Jackie have a tight bond with each other. Jackie did get pregnant but found out right after she was diagnosed with cancer the first time and she ended up having a miscarriage at six months due to the chemotherapy.
