Here’s everything you need to know about Dr. Jackie’s patient Da Brat.

Who is Da Brat?

Shawntae Harris is best known by her stage name, Da Brat. She’s a rap artist, writer, television and radio personality, music executive, television producer, and actress.

She hails from Chicago where she played seven different instruments in her school’s band. Harris’ stage name was inspired because as an only child, she was often referred to as a "brat." Her debut album, Funkdafied, was released in 1994 with Jermaine Dupri as her producer, and entered the rap albums chart at number one. The album went platinum, making her the first female solo rapper to sell one million units. Her best-known feature credits are with Jermaine Dupri, Kris Kross, Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott, Jay Z, Aaliyah, the Notorious BIG, and more.

She also has collaborated with artists like Xscape, Usher, Destiny’s Child, Brandy, Snoop Dogg, Bow Wow, and many others. She was also nominated for a Grammy for the single Not Tonight released in 1997 with Lil’ Kim, Left Eye, Missy Elliott and Angie Martinez.

Da Brat has released four studio albums to date: Funkdafied, Anutha Tantrum, Unrestricted and Limelite, and Luv and Nightclubs.

What else has Da Brat starred in?

In 2015, Da Brat made her radio debut when she joined the nationally syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show as the new co-host. In 2016 she became a permanent fixture on the Fox TV show Dish Nation. She has also appeared on television shows like The ParenthoodSabrina the Teenage Witch, Nickelodeon's All That, Rickey Smiley for Real, Empire, and The Rap Game.

She also served as an executive producer and cast member on WETV’s Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta, WildNOut, The Chi, and Queens. In 2018, Da Brat made a successful theatrical debut live on stage as “Cleo” in a show based on the hit 1996 movie Set It Off, which continued throughout 2022.

Who is Da Brat’s wife?

Da Brat has been seen in Dr. Jackie’s office with her wife Jessica “Judy” Dupart. They were married on February 2, 2022.

Jessica is the CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products. The couple made television history as the first LGBTQ+ female power couple on television on WETV’s Brat Loves Judy. After they tied the knot, they joked about starting a family, in addition to the three kids that Jessica already had prior to their relationship. The decision for Da Brat to carry their child came after Jessica suffered major health complications after her egg retrieval procedure. Da Brat had to undergo surgery to remove fibroids and polyps prior to her embryo transfer procedure. She suffered a miscarriage, but since they had several of Jessica’s eggs left, they were able to conceive. Da Brat is 49 years old and is undergoing what Dr. Jackie has referred to on Married to Medicine as a “high risk” pregnancy because of her age. Dr. Jackie has been staying on top of her about eating right and getting enough rest.
