Does Alex McCord Think Luann D'Agostino Is *Really* Ready to Let Her Countess Title Go?
We just explained all the Tom drama to the #RHONY alum.
We witnessed the end of an era during Wednesday night's episode of The Real Housewives of New York City. Countess Luann de Lesseps was officially no more as she gave up her title to become Mrs. Tom D'Agostino during her New Year's Eve nuptials that we got a glimpse of on RHONY.
Of course, Luann has said that she has "no problem" not being called Countess anymore. Her tagline this season is "the only title I'd trade Countess for... is wife," after all.
We wondered if that attitude came as a shock to someone who knew Luann during her Countess days: RHONY alum Alex McCord. "Luann and I have always had our difficulties, and I called her 'a thug in a cocktail dress,' and she's called me many other things. I think there was always this sort of push me-pull you with her and the Countess title," Alex told The Daily Dish earlier this spring. "I'm not sure how important it was to her or the show or back-and-forth, but if she's able to let it go and move on, that's a really good step forward."
Alex previously told The Daily Dish that she hasn't kept in touch a ton with Luann since they were last on RHONY together in Season 4. The RHONY alum also moved to Australia at the end of 2014, which hasn't made keeping on top of the RHONY goings-on any easier. However, she did know that Luann had gotten married. "I know her husband's name is Tom," she shared. "That's about it."
So, of course, we had to clue her in on all of the Tom drama that has engrossed the Big Apple ladies during the past two seasons, from Sonja Morgan and Ramona Singer's past with him to Bethenny Frankel breaking the news to Luann that he had kissed another woman at the Regency after they had gotten engaged to the couple ultimately deciding to work through this hurdle and live happily ever after. "Nothing about the Housewives surprises me — ever," Alex told The Daily Dish after we filled her in.
Even though Alex and Luann have had their differences on RHONY, the alum actually thought it kind of made sense that Tom seemed to be quite the ladies' man among these Manhattanites. "For people who don't live in New York City, it's weird when you think of a city of, whatever, eight-and-a-half million people that it's such a small town, but New York has always been a really, really small town. If you're in a particular industry or particular crew of people, there's a lot of oh, he dated her, oh, so did he and so did she. It can kind of get incestuous, which sounds ridiculous," she said of Tom's romances with Luann, Sonja, and Ramona. "But no, I'm not surprised that three of them had been with one guy. Maybe not at the same time [laughs]. But I'm sure it made for great TV."
While your jaw is still on the floor, Luann also had some kind words for Alex when The Daily Dish caught up with her earlier this spring, even though she also admitted that the two had lost touch over the years. "Well, I mean, I haven't seen Alex McCord in years since I think they moved away. I think they're somewhere Down Under, I don't know. So I don't know what Alex McCord's been up to," she said when asked for her thoughts on the alum's new career in psychology. "I'm all about women pursuing whatever makes them happy and gives them fulfillment. So I wish her luck."
