Lisa Vanderpump Shares Her Candid Reaction to Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix’s Breakup
The Vanderpump Rules cast member also revealed how Ariana is holding up amid rumors Tom had an affair.
When news of Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix’s split first broke, Lisa Vanderpump told fans they’d be hearing her thoughts on the matter “shortly.” Now she’s delivering on her promise.
Describing her reaction to the breakup during Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday, March 8 — as well as the ensuing rumors about Tom allegedly having an affair — the Vanderpump Rules matriarch said she was “gobsmacked” and “flabbergasted.”
“I mean, literally no words,” Lisa added. “I didn’t see it coming. Nobody saw it coming.”
She also gave her take on the two statements Tom has issued in the days since TMZ reported that he and Ariana had split after more than nine years together. ICYMI, the first included an apology to those feeling “anger” or “disappointment” toward him, as well as Tom Schwartz and their business partners, while the second and most recent one focused on Ariana.
“Obviously it was because he had some kind of reaction to the first apology that he felt it was necessary to apologize to Ariana,” Lisa said of Tom’s potential motivations. “But I don’t think these apologies are worth the paper or social media they’re written on. I want to see true contrition.”
She also wants to unpack the cheating Tom’s been accused of. As she put it, “I hope that when the reunion comes, we actually all sit down and we can have a better understanding of how this happened, why this happened, and when this happened.”
But for the meantime, Lisa is focused on showing her support to Ariana. “I’ve seen her and I’ve shot with her because obviously it’s an integral part of the story now,” she explained, referring to the fact that Season 10 recently resumed filming. “We’ve got to tell the real story.”
As for how Ariana is holding up, “I would say the word I would use is devastated,” Lisa said. “A lot of tears. I think Ariana was always that ride-or-die girlfriend.”
