Kyle Richards Says Living with Her Youngest Daughter Portia Umansky Is "Really Quiet" (VIDEO)
Kyle Richards and Portia Umansky have a special relationship. Here's what the RHOBH mom said about their life at home.
Ever since we met Kyle Richards on Season 1 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, we've known her as a mom. And now, her four beautiful daughters are (almost) all grown up.
Nearly all of Kyle's kids have left the nest. But, she's not living solo just yet. Her teen daughter, 16-year-old Portia Umansky, still lives at home with Kyle full-time, much to her mom's delight. (While her third youngest, Sophia Umansky, also technically lives at home, the college grad is more likely to be hopping around and busy with her career.)
Yes, this means that with Mauricio Umansky officially out of the house — he and Kyle separated in summer 2023 — it's quite quiet over in Encino.
"What has changed in my life since last year? Oh my gosh, so much. Mau moved out about a week or two ago. Alexia [Umansky] also moved out. Having both of them move out back-to-back was very difficult, to say the least," Kyle explained during Season 14, Episode 1 of RHOBH. "Mau was living in a house with all women. Whenever something needed to be done, he was the only guy. I don't know how to turn on the TV properly. I don't know how to get on the music, the pool heater, the pool light, and I don't do, like, rain gutters and stuff. I didn't even know what one was until like a week ago. [ ... ] Sometimes when Sophia is out and it's just Portia and me, it's really quiet. And I realize it's going to be like that a lot. This is not what I expected my life to be."
Ahead, everything to know about Kyle and Portia's close-knit relationship and living situation.
Who is Portia Umansky?
Portia is the youngest daughter of Kyle and Mauricio. She has three older sisters: Farrah Brittany (who Kyle welcomed with her first husband, Guraish Adjulfie), Alexia, and Sophia. The 16-year-old is currently in high school and looking ahead to her college journey.
How old is Portia Umansky?
Portia was born March 1, 2008, which means she turned 16 in March 2004. She celebrated the milestone birthday with a family celebration and gorgeous cake topped with sparklers.
And if you're saying to yourself, "I thought she was a toddler?!" you're not completely off base. RHOBH premiered in 2010 when Portia was tiny; fans have watched her grow up before their eyes over the years.
"It's just so wild to think about that this much of my life has been covered all these years, and she has no memory of any life before the show," Kyle told The Daily Dish in February. "So that's kind of wild to think about."
Inside Kyle Richards and Portia Umansky's Relationship
As is the case with all of her daughters, Kyle and Portia are super close. Episode 1 of Season 14 showed the mother-daughter duo attempting to move some furniture all by themselves and then talking about what they might eat for dinner. The winning choice? Poke bowls.
During Episode 3, Kyle quizzed Portia about her dad's upcoming European vacation.
"I'm curious what his trip is going to be. Is he going with people? Am I being nosy to ask?" she asked. When Portia told her mom she should simply ask Mau, she cheekily said that she just "doesn't care enough" to bring it up.
But it's not all jokes between the two. Back in 2017, Portia sweetly picked her mom when she was told to dress as her favorite superhero for a dress-up day at school.
"Be still my beating heart!" wrote Kyle in an Instagram post alongside a photo of the 9-year-old in a sporty outfit with oversized sunglasses.
Portia Umansky got her driver's license in 2024
Even though Portia lives with her mom, she can technically come and go thanks to her very own driver's license.
"[Portia is] extremely responsible," Kyle shared during the aforementioned February interview with The Daily Dish. "And she's doing great driving, [but] no matter what happens, it's really scary."
And now that Portia has the certification, her mom's job of taking her to school has officially ended.
"Now I'm like, 'What will I do with that extra time and how will I catch up with her in the morning when she's so busy?'" Kyle said during an August 2024 Amazon Live appearance. "Now she does errands because she drives. I'm like, 'Where are you Portia?' She's like, 'Oh, I'm doing some errands.' I think she really loves saying that, too."
Portia Umansky's college journey
Because she's the very last Umansky girl to head to college, fans are very excited to see where Portia will pick for her secondary education. "I started this show when Portia was in diapers and sleeping in a crib. You saw Season 1, I was laying in a crib with her trying to get her to sleep," Kyle said during a Bravo Fan Fest panel in November. "Now we're going to be touring colleges in the spring."
In September, Kyle shared during an Amazon Live stream that Portia is considering attending the University of Miami for sports management. "She was a manager of the boys' tennis team and the basketball team, and now she's just like, 'I like to boss people around,'" Kyle said.
Who else lives at Kyle Richards' Encino house?
As mentioned, Kyle and Portia aren't the only people residing at Kyle's house in Encino. They live there with their many pets and Portia's older sister, Sophia Umansky, also still resides at home with Kyle. Kyle's adult kid showed off her bedroom at the Encino house back in September 2024.
Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave moves in with Kyle Richards
In early December 2024, it was revealed that Kyle's longtime BFF, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave, had moved into Kyle's home amid her split from Edwin Arroyave.
Kyle Richards reacts to Mauricio Umansky's new apartment
Earlier in 2024, Kyle's estranged husband moved out of the family home and into his own apartment amid their separation. Kyle confirmed on WWHL in December 2024 that she has not yet been to Mauricio's new home. "I would love to see it," she said. "It just hasn't worked out because of my schedule and traveling and his schedule."
Around the same time he moved out, daughter Alexia Umansky also moved into a new place with her now-fiance, Jake Zingerman.
Kyle Richards describes co-parenting Portia with Mauricio Umansky
Now that Kyle and Mauricio live in two different residences, they're also navigating co-parenting their youngest child. "I mean, I guess, technically she would have to [split her time between our home] — but it doesn't feel like that. Because we have a great relationship," Kyle said of her and Mauricio back in June 2024 in a livestream. "And it's like, if she wants to go, she goes. If she's here, sometimes we'll have dinner, and we're just like, 'It's whatever you want to do.' There's no set thing."
"She's 16 years old, and there's no fighting involved in my relationship with Mau at all," Kyle added. "So that part is very nice. I don't have to deal with any of that. Thank god."
