Kelly Bensimon Reveals She Was “Not Prepared” for Her Engagement
The Real Housewives of New York City alum also shared her vision for her wedding day.
Kelly Killoren Bensimon announced her engagement to her boyfriend of one year, Scott Litner, back in July. And while The Real Housewives of New York City alum — and soon-to-be Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip cast member — was ultimately "so happy" to take the next step in her relationship, it turns out that she was initially "totally not prepared" for Scott's proposal.

In a new interview with Us, Kelly shared just how surprised she was when her now-fiancé got down on one knee.
“We hopped on a boat and I was driving him around [my hometown] and he was like, ‘Go to your favorite spot.' Then he asked me to marry him," Kelly recalled. "I [was in] a pink bikini ... totally not prepared."
In retrospect, though, Kelly said she appreciates how authentic the proposal was. As she put it, "It was very real and I think that there’s a lot of these weddings and proposals which are really Instagrammable and beautiful ... but it was just very genuine.”
What's Next in Kelly Bensimon's Wedding Planning Process
Though Kelly and Scott naturally have a long to-do list ahead of their wedding, there's one thing they want to take care of sooner rather than later: their engagement photos. More specifically, the couple wants to do the photoshoot in Montauk.
“We just spent a lot of time there and we had a really great time there last summer. So I was like, ‘You know, that’s a really great spot to do it with good people and just like good vibes,’” Kelly said. “Not like being a wedding photo or an engagement photo but a memory of all of my friends. That’s really the core of who I am. It’s just really making these strong connections and continuing them on.”

Kelly and Scott are still trying to “figure out” the details of their big day, but if it were up to him, they'd "get married right away."
The same can't be said for Kelly's daughters (from her previous marriage to fashion photographer Gilles Bensimon), 25-year-old Sea and 23-year-old Teddy. As Kelly shared, "My youngest daughter’s like ‘Mom, it takes six months to have a dress made.’ I’m like, ‘What do we do?' It’s just fun that [the kids] are very interested.”
Whenever the time does come, Kelly said she plans to have two separate ceremonies. “I think we’re going to do a very small wedding with just my family and his family. And then we’re going to do a big party with all of our friends," she said. "I wanted to do something that was kind of different."

In addition to getting engaged and planning a wedding, Kelly and Scott are also moving in together.
“We’re looking for an apartment today,” Kelly revealed, also noting that her fiancé has three sons from a previous relationship. “I mean we’ve got all these kids of different ages so it’s going to be fun. I was thinking because my oldest daughter is 25 so by the time she starts having kids, we’re going to have grandkids. It’s just going to be like nonstop.”
