Karen Huger Explains How Her Children Reacted to Her Marriage Struggles with Ray
"I'm so lucky to have them as kids," gushed the RHOP mom. "They are so freaking cool."
Bravo Digital's Megan Segura and Erik J. Mac bring you exclusive interviews from Bravo HQ, featuring Bravolebs such as Nene Leakes and Captain Lee, plus expert commentary and behind-the-scenes scoop straight from Bravo execs. New episodes are released every Saturday morning, wherever you get your podcasts.
With 23 years of marriage under her belt, Karen Huger is not afraid to be brutally honest about her relationship. The Grand Dame has been open about the struggles she and her husband, Ray Huger, have been experiencing in their “institution” throughout this season of The Real Housewives of Potomac. On the August 29 episode of The Daily Dish podcast, which you can listen to below, Karen explained how her children handled the situation.
“It’s so great to have adult children. I’m so blessed that they are grown,” Karen said of her daughter, Rayvin, and son, Brandon, when asked what it’s been like to have an empty nest. “And they were grown, by the way, when Ray and I hit this impasse.”
Karen noted that she was extremely impressed with the incredibly mature way Rayvin and Brandon approached their parents’ marital problems.
“They were so cool with us, and they said, ‘Look, you guys have been great parents, but what we don’t want is you to stay together because of us. They were like, rooting for us, but they were like, ‘Look! I want you to be happy!’” Karen explained. “That’s when you raise your children right. And they love you and they respect you enough to say, ‘Look, don’t do it for me. Do it for you all. You guys deserve the best.’”
“I’m so lucky to have them as kids,” Karen continued. “They are so freaking cool. Ray and I were looking at each other like, ‘We’re having a serious conversation with you,’ and they simply just went back to the foundation we gave them as children. And to operate from a place of love and not selfishness when they had to look at their mom and dad struggling for a moment. And they were like, you guys take care of yourselves first, you’ve done a great job, we’re going to love both of you regardless. That helped so tremendously. That’s why it’s important to raise your children properly.”
Karen also gushed about how proud she is of both children, adding, “They are fantastic. Brandon has an impressive career going on. Rayvin is wrapping up her masters this fall. I couldn’t be prouder of my children and the love and support.”
