Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker Have "Had Arguments" About His Daughter Kaela
The Real Housewives of Atlanta couple doesn't always see eye-to-eye on parenting.
Though Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker are most definitely relationship goals, The Real Housewives of Atlanta couple isn't always on the same page when it comes to personal and professional matters.
After Kandi and Todd had a serious discussion about how much time she was spending with her family versus on her career commitments, they decided to sit down with a marriage counselor during the April 12 episode of RHOA. During that conversation, Kandi brought up a disagreement she had with Todd over his daughter Kaela's birthday gift.
Kandi opened up more about the challenges she and Todd face while raising their blended family, which includes his daughter Kaela, 23, and her daughter, Riley, 17, from previous relationships, in addition to the two kids they have together, son Ace, 3, and daughter Blaze, 4 months, during The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 12 After Show, which you can view, above.
"We definitely have had arguments in the past, mainly because with Kaela, say if it's around her birthday or around Christmas, he likes to determine what we're gonna do for her during those times where he bases it off of 'Well, she needs to save money for this' or 'We should just hold it until this happens,' whatever," Kandi explained. "Whereas I just feel like, 'So what if she got in trouble this day? It's her birthday, so just let her do what she wants to do.'"
Kenya Moore told Kandi that she seems to be "the more lenient parent" during the After Show, with which she agreed. However, Kandi also argued that Kaela is an adult and can make her own decisions. "[Todd] feels like if she hasn't been responsible in a situation or whatever, then she shouldn't get this or shouldn't do that, blah, blah, blah," Kandi said. "But I'm just like, 'OK, but she's 23, let her live!'"
Kandi said that Todd has received "a lot of negativity" from fans for how he has decided to discipline Kaela this season of RHOA. As much as Kandi also sometimes disagrees with Todd, she said she believes that, as Kaela's biological father, he should have the authority on anything having to do with his daughter. "We can talk to each other about what we feel should happen in certain situations, but ultimately, you know, the 'birth parent' in that situation has the final say," Kandi explained. "Now in the future, with our smaller kids that we have together, obviously we're gonna have to compromise a bit more."
