The Real Housewives of Atlanta multi-hyphenate and her eldest daughter took to social media recently to give a glimpse at their joint session in the music studio. In a January 16 Instagram Reel, Kandi shared a group photo of herself, Riley, her cousin Akbar V, and music producer Jayo. Kandi captioned the post, “Who better to Pop Off than [Akbar V]!”
The short clip was set to the tune of Kandi's new song, “Pop Off,” which she released earlier in the month with a new spoof video that highlighted her new alter ego, Plastique. Judging from Kandi’s photo and playful message, it might be safe to say that fans can expect a remix of the track soon.
Riley also got in on the social media fun by taking to her Instagram Story a few hours later to show her followers her point of view in the studio. Her picture included a dark-lit room with a huge screen displaying vocal tracks getting mixed by a music engineer. Instead of writing a caption, Riley opted for the round pushpin emoji, which covertly doubles as a location indicator.
Details on Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker’s musical play
Speaking of catchy tunes, Kandi and her husband, Todd Tucker, are producing the famed musical, The Wiz, which is on a national tour before it lands on Broadway in the spring.
Per Deadline, The Wiz will start its run on Broadway at the end of March. Broadway previews begin on March 29, with an official opening night for April 17. The show will take place at the Marquis Theatre with Wayne Brady set for the title role.
In April 2022, Kandi spoke with The Daily Dish about her aspiration of attaining EGOT status.
"My overall dream is that I get the EGOT," she shared at the time. "Meaning I got a Grammy. I need an Emmy, I need an Oscar, I need a Tony. And so it's like [I need to] analyze the Emmy, Oscar, Tony, and figure out what are all the things I can do to qualify me to be recognized for something like that? So I'm working towards those goals.”
