Josh Flagg Goes After an "Incredible" $36.5M Listing: "There's Nothing Like It" (VIDEO)
The Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles agent says touring the home is like "going back in time."
Josh Flagg has his sights set on yet another historic listing.
In the above preview for Season 15, Episode 9 of Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, which is set to air Wednesday, September 4, Josh meets with a seller's rep at a Pasadena mansion to get a walk through... and try to land the listing.
"This is pretty special," notes the realtor upon entering the mansion. "It's just beautiful."
In a confessional, he digs into why the home deserves all those adjectives.
"Pasadena's got some of the most magnificent architecture you'll ever see," he says. "It's all untouched, gorgeous 1920s homes. But this is the grand dame of all of them. It was built by Myron Hunt, who did the [Huntington Library,] and Gordon Kaufmann, who did Greystone Mansion. That's like saying Frank Lloyd Wright built your house. This is the top of the top."
Landing at 12,000 square feet and sitting on 2.5 acres, the 1916 home has "the incredible ability to make you feel like you're in The Great Gatsby," according to the seller's rep, Richard Weintraub.
"Everything in this house is just pedigree to the nth degree," agrees Josh.
After Richard offers to take him through the dining room, they march ahead — especially after Josh spots some "incredible Zuber wall panels." The hand painted art is worth about $6,500.
Last purchased in 2011 for $7.3 million dollars, the home went through $13 million dollars in restoration. "The result was worth the effort," notes Richard, while Josh says that it's "really good."
Moving along, the men enter the kitchen (with double islands) and a gorgeous library with a wood and coal-burning fireplace and bar with a glass door. Upstairs, the primary bedroom and bathroom stun and Josh gives some trivia on why the hallways are so wide: the women's dresses were big and needed room to float down unencumbered.
"Touring Oak Knoll is like going back in time and exploring history," he says. "This house has been around since before the depression — sort of like my friend group."
But wait ... there's more. After entering an elevator as an homage to the mining era, the men are led down an underground hallway and into a private 20,000 square foot museum, 46-seat theater, and tiki bar. (There's also a pub and wine cellar.)
Josh Flagg Explains Why He's the Best Agent to Sell the Historic Listing
"Richard is probably the most famous developer in all of Malibu, California. He's a very close friend of mine. So when the seller asked him to interview agents, of course I was at the top of his list," explains Josh in a confessional.
It also helps that Josh is a preservationist.
"I'm a commissioner in the city of Beverly Hills on the cultural heritage commission, which is ... we love old things, right? This home is a piece of art. I mean, there's nothing like it," he later adds.
In a post-tour conversation with Richard, Josh notes that the home is the exact type he enjoys selling; it exemplifies what he stands for.
"I don't think anyone can do a better job on something like this," he adds. On the phone with the seller, Josh says he'd love to represent him ... and list the home for $36.5 million.
Will he accept? Tune into MDLLA on Wednesday, September 4 to find out. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
