Was Malia Obama a Good Production Assistant? Halle Berry Reveals All
The actress dishes on being starstruck by the former First Daughter.
It's not typical for a megawatt Hollywood actress to be starstruck by a production assistant (or PA) on their set. But it's different when your PA is the former First Daughter, as Halle Berry found out in 2014 when Malia Obama worked on the set of her television show Extant.
"She was fantastic, she was amazing," Halle gushed to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. "She is such a smart, beautiful young woman — well, look at who her mother and her father are, duh! She was amazing. It was kind of wild."
Halle teases that she really wanted to talk to Malia's parents while shooting: "Can we call your dad? Or your mom? I was such a huge fan of her, she was a-mazing."
Toni Collette, who also appeared on WWHL, asked Halle if Malia really pulled her weight on the set. "Yeah, she was down to do whatever a PA is asked to do and I had wild respect for her for that," said Halle. "But everybody couldn't really see her as a PA. Although we just couldn't really see her as one but, to her credit, she tried really hard to be one."
Malia's skills as a PA have been praised on subsequent jobs as well. The summer following her work on Extant, she was a writer's intern on the set of Girls and was "super cool and nice," star Andrew Rannells told Andy on WWHL. More recently, she was set to intern for Hollywood "Oscar whisperer" Harvey Weinstein. Could her future be making movies for the silver screen? Watch those credits.
Below, Halle dishes more about her life and career.
