Malia Obama Somehow Got Out of Getting Coffee as an Intern on Girls
Girls star Andrew Rannells reveals what it was really like to have the former first daughter on set.
When the president's daughter is your intern, do you ask her to get coffee? It seems like that would have been the conundrum ahead for the cast of Girls when President Barack Obama's eldest daughter, Malia Obama, interned for the HBO series in the summer of 2015.
But it sounds like none of the Girls cast members had to risk getting in trouble with the Commander-in-Chief over making Malia go on Starbucks runs. "She was our writers' intern, so she wasn't in the group of people who had to get yogurt. She didn't do that," Andrew Rannells, who plays Hannah's (Lena Dunham) friend Elijah on Girls, said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
Of course, having the first daughter on set also means having the Secret Service around, which you might think could cause a bit of a disturbance while filming, especially on the streets of New York. "Actually, I have to say that Secret Service was so stealth that it took a while to figure out where she was at any given time because they really did blend in very seamlessly. So she didn't disrupt our set at all," Andrew told Andy Cohen. "And she was super cool and nice."
We didn't think Malia would be any less than a star intern, anyway. So it's no surprise that she's now reportedly interning for one of today's biggest Hollywood producers, Harvey Weinstein, in New York. Let's be real, it's only a matter of time before Malia is running Hollywood herself.
