Gizelle Has a Surprising Update on Friendship with Karen: “Why I Have a Problem...”
Gizelle contends that "conversations need to be had" with Karen after their dueling events.
Gizelle Bryant and Karen Huger’s ever-changing friendship has been a focal point of The Real Housewives of Potomac since day one of the series, airing Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo. They’ve had more ups and downs than we can count. So where are they now?
En route to Lake Norman with other Housewives in Season 9, Episode 4, Gizelle was asked about that by castmates: “How are you and Karen?”
Gizelle didn’t hold back and intimated there’s a current hiccup, as seen in a preview clip for the upcoming episode.
"We’re gonna be fine,” Gizelle told fellow passengers. “But there’s conversations that need to be had.”
She then proceeded to detail what she “really has a problem with” about the RHOP Grande Dame.
Are Gizelle and Karen friends?
Going into Season 9, Gizelle told E! News that she and Karen were in a good place. “I’m pleased to say we're in an OK spot this year,” she said. But with these two women, things can go from OK to "Oh, no!" in a flash.
The fragility of their friendship was soon revealed where Gizelle and Ashley Darby hosted a charity event where Gizelle’s late father was honored. The event was on the calendar for a long while. At the last minute, Karen’s acceptance of the Femme Powered award was slated for the same night. The double booking made it tricky for fellow Housewives to easily be at both events.
Gizelle believed Karen’s event was intentionally scheduled by design and, worse, in total disrespect to her and her dad. Not good.
In a confessional, Gizelle fumed: “Karen didn’t give a sh-t. Can I say sh-t? Like, how you gonna disrespect the charity that I’m giving money to in the name of my father? ... So that’s really what I have a problem with.”
Will Gizelle and Karen make up?
When Gizelle has a problem, she tackles it head on — and that can lead to fireworks. Wendy Osefo, whose 40th birthday coincided with the Lake Norman getaway, asked Gizelle if she’d respect her celebration.
“Can you guys talk tonight and not tomorrow?” she said. “Because tomorrow is a special day.”
Gizelle reassured her not to fret: “We’re not gonna mess that up,” she said.
“I don’t plan on screaming at Karen,” Gizelle added. “I don't plan on it going left. Karen and I have come a long way. So hopefully she will receive [my message].”
But as she was taking stock of her and Karen’s history, Gizelle acknowledged that the best-laid plans of Real Housewives can often go awry. If Karen didn’t receive Gizelle’s concerns with an open heart and an open mind, things could get messy, she added.
“It might spill over,” said Gizelle. “It might get a little spillage on your birthday.”
