Fredrik Eklund Reflects on His “Chaotic” Year: "I Want To Be A Better Father"
The MDLNY real estate agent has a lot of thoughts about 2024 and now he's sharing his goals for the new year in 2025.
Fredrik Eklund had a whirlwind 2024. The Million Dollar Listing New York real estate agent has been incredibly busy selling homes and luxury real estate, parenting his twins Milla and Freddy with husband Derek Kaplan, and splitting his time between his homes in Connecticut and Miami (and soon his new home in NYC).
This has been just a little chaotic for him, as he explained in a reel that he posted to his Instagram account on Dec. 31. The dad of two showed off just how intense his life can be in the video, filling it with clips of him walking through different properties, staring out windows, driving in cars, and flying in private jets, intermixed with B-roll of New York City and Miami.
"2024 was a beautiful, magic year," Fredrik narrated in the video's voiceover. "Actually, a bit chaotic or even karmic is the better word. Out with the old, in with the new."

Fredrik Eklund reveals what he's learned from 2024 amid move to Miami
Although he was able to do his job and make record-breaking sales, Fredrik revealed in the video's voice-over that 2024 "wasn't perfect in any way." "But, what I learned from this year is that no big deal, no penthouse deal, will ever compare with the Swedish pancakes, and the messy mornings, and the bedtime stories that are so warm with the kids," he explained.
"I'm really grateful for 2024 despite all the imperfections," he continued. "I mean, the team grew, and the kids turned seven, and through all the ups and downs I was able to give back a little bit more to the people that need it the most."
In the past year alone, Fredrik sold his home in Beverly Hills for just under $10 million, saying goodbye to the "beautiful memories" he made with his family there. He then — along with his husband Derek and their kids — had to get used to life in Miami. This wasn't easy for the real estate agent, who had to keep up with the twins' demanding social calendar. "I can't keep up with their social life and all their play dates," he noted in a June Instagram post.

Fredrik also chose to focus on his health in 2024, documenting going on yet "another beach run" in November 2024 and revealing that he "finally" got "back in shape" in December. He also took the time to express gratitude for his life, "appreciating the little things," like his view of the full moon after his run.

In 2024, Fredrik and Derek also marked a major milestone in their relationship when they celebrated their 15th year together as a couple. They celebrated the anniversary with a dazzling European getaway.
“You know, I’m surprising my hubby with something special as we’re celebrating 15 years together this summer... You know, we have these two beautiful children; that’s enough to celebrate, but I digress," he wrote over the summer about the trip. “We missed the kids so much but it was actually, to be honest with you, great just to be the two of us for a few days. [We got to] dress up and go back in time and revisit history before heading home to Miami.”

In addition to reflecting on the chaos of 2024, Fredrik stated his goals for 2025 in the video's voice-over. "I want to be a better father in 2025," he stated. "Let's make 2025 a year where our loved ones are proud of us."
However, before he really starts working on these things, he is going to get some much-needed rest. "But first, let's also take a really long nap," he concluded.
