The culinary competition earned nods for Outstanding Competition Program, Outstanding Host for a Reality Competition Program, and more.
Bravo's Top Chef has once again been honored by the Television Academy, earning five Emmy nominations for this year's awards ceremony, it was announced on Tuesday, July 13.
The culinary competition has been nominated for Outstanding Competition Program, along with The Amazing Race, Nailed It!, RuPaul's Drag Race, and The Voice. Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio, and Gail Simmons have also been nominated for Outstanding Host for a Reality Competition Program, along with Nicole Byer (Nailed It!), the cast of Queer Eye, RuPaul (RuPaul's Drag Race), and the cast of Shark Tank.
Top Chef also earned nominations for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program, Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program, and Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program.
Padma applauded everyone involved in Top Chef for being recognized for this most challenging season to film. “I’m so glad that all of the hard work and sacrifices made by everyone in the 'Top Chef' crew has been recognized by the Television Academy, as we filmed this season during the pandemic, fires and civil unrest in Portland," she told The Daily Dish in a statement. "We are lucky to be nominated every season but this nomination is especially meaningful.”
Gail similarly shared how proud she is of the whole Top Chef team following these nominations for an unprecedented season of the culinary competition. “For 15 years, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the most creative, knowledgeable and dedicated people in both the entertainment and restaurant industries, but nothing could have prepared us for the challenges faced shooting Bravo’s Top Chef Season 18 in Portland last fall. Amidst a global pandemic, raging wildfires and divisive civil and political unrest, our production persevered and evolved," she said in a statement to The Daily Dish. "I’m humbled and grateful to sit at their table and celebrate these hard-earned accomplishments. Our six Emmy nominations are the icing on the cake, and the nod for Outstanding Co-host nominee is the sparkler on top.”
Season 18 featured a new batch of 15 cheftestants vying for the title of Top Chef in Portland, Oregon. For the first time ever, the series also featured a rotating judging and dining panel made up of Top Chef all-star winners, finalists, and favorites, along with longtime judges Padma, Tom, and Gail.
This marks the 15th straight year that Top Chef has been nominated for Outstanding Competition Program. Top Chef has won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Picture Editing for Reality Programming in 2008 and Outstanding Reality - Competition Program in 2010. It has received 37 Emmy nominations to date.
Last Chance Kitchen was also nominated this year for Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Reality Series. It previously won the Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media - Multiplatform Storytelling in 2013.
Elsewhere on Bravo, Below Deck also received two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Program.
