The Vanderpump Rules Showrunner Reveals BTS Secrets from that Glitzy New Season 10 Show Intro
The new intro takes viewers to Schwartz & Sandy’s, Pump, and Tom Tom before bringing them back to the place where it all began: SUR.
Just raise your glasses high... because there’s a bRand new intro for Vanderpump Rules Season 10!
The opening title — which features the same iconic “Raise Your Glass” theme song that has been a staple on the show since its 2013 debut — features cast members Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz at their new Hollywood lounge, Schwartz & Sandy’s. The camera then takes viewers to West Hollywood, where Katie Maloney, Lala Kent, and Ariana Madix are inside at Tom Tom. After a brief shot of the exterior of Pump, the camera brings viewers back to the show’s roots at SUR with Scheana Shay, James Kennedy, Raquel Leviss, and Lisa Vanderpump. A shot of Los Angeles and the show’s title flash across the screen in the final seconds of the opener.
Jeremiah Smith, the showrunner of Vanderpump Rules, spoke to The Wrap about the new look and why he wanted to highlight all the restaurants the cast members either work at or spend a lot of time in.
“The universe that the show exists in has gone from one restaurant to four,” he explained. “I wanted the main titles to show off the whole ‘Vanderverse,’ as I call it. I wanted to include Schwartz & Sandy’s, Tom Tom, and SUR.”
Once he decided that he wanted all the aforementioned establishments to be in the main title, he had to figure out where each cast member would be.
“Some of them are obvious, like Tom and Tom in Schwartz & Sandy’s. I still want to finish on Lisa at SUR because she’s the finale. Raquel works at SUR, makes sense to have her there. James deejays at SUR, makes sense to have him there. Then I filled in the rest,” he continued. “Ariana and Katie and Tom Tom made sense because they were the Toms’ partners. And they’re friends with Lala. So we put Lala in there. We started with the locations and then filled in which cast would be where.”
The Season 10 opening title was shot entirely on a drone, giving it a different feel from the prior intro, which was filmed on a “very large, very complicated super slow-motion camera.”
Jeremiah wanted viewers to feel as if they “were flying through an open restaurant and have things crossing the frame and flying right next to people’s heads.”
Though the aesthetic of the title sequence has gone in a totally different direction, the intro song hasn’t changed at all. Jeremiah considered “re-recording” “Raise Your Glass” for Season 10, but he ultimately felt that the current version “is the show.”
“When you hear that song, you immediately know what show is on TV. You immediately know [what] you’re in for. So we decided to keep that and just change up the visuals,” he said. “I love the song.”
