This Is What the Real Debra Newell's Life Looks Like After Dirty John
The Dirty John interior designer has made some huge changes following her relationship with John Meehan.
The story of how John Meehan captivated Debra Newell has been the focus of Bravo's limited series Dirty John. The real-life Newell, whose story was featured in the Los Angeles Times articles and Dirty John podcast by Christopher Goffard, was living a relatively quiet life as an interior designer in Orange County until her life was upended by Meehan. Following the story of their ill-fated romance becoming public, Newell's life has definitely changed. She expanded more on these changes when she appeared as a bartender on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Monday, January 7.
"I'm an interior designer but I'm in Vegas now," Newell revealed. After moving to Vegas, she launched Ambrosia Home, a furnishings and interior design firm. The interior designer, who had built her firm Ambrosia Interior Design in California over 30 years, never imagined that after speaking with Goffard, people would be so interested in her story.
"I thought it would be a small interview on the sixth page of the L.A. Times and it became this," Newell admitted. She also explained her reasoning for telling her story: "I had thought that it was more important to get this out to women, what can happen to them, so I feel that I've taken myself out of it and tried to put myself in other women's shoes," she said, revealing that she gets "hundreds" of texts and emails a day from women in similar situations.
As for what she thinks of Eric Bana, who plays John? "I think he's very hot," Newell admitted. Well, that makes all of us.
