Carl's Stepdad Has Zero Regrets About *That* Conversation: "I Spoke My Truth"
Carl said that his stepfather and mother wanted the best for him and Lindsay. "I'm grateful," he added.
Carl Radke's conversation with his stepdad and mom is proof we can always count on our parents to tell us the truth — even when it hurts.
In Season 8, Episode 11 of Summer House, Carl headed to the Jersey Shore to visit with his mom, Sharon, and stepfather Lou. While the convo started out as a mere catch-up, Lou turned serious, questioning if Carl's relationship with Lindsay Hubbard is strong enough to withstand the test of time.
"It's much harder and so much more painful to end a marriage than to get it right before you get married," Lou, an ordained minister, advised.
And while Carl acknowledged his relationship with Lindsay could use some work, he wasn't ready to give up on their love just yet. That's when Lou admitted that he's refused to ordain some weddings if he felt he couldn't do it in "good conscience."
For Carl and Lindsay, Lou said, "I don't know that I'd do it."
As it turns out, Carl's stepfather is still happy he had that conversation with Carl, as seen in the Summer House After Show.
Carl Radke's stepdad has no regrets about their conversation
Fans saw a sneak peek of this conversation in the Summer House Season 8 trailer, prompting mixed reactions from viewers. But it seems Lou doesn't mind that this emotional, personal conversation was shared with the world.
"I thought he'd be really worried about putting that out there but he was like, 'No, I'm speaking the truth,'" Carl shared on the Summer House After Show. "And I respect him for that and I'm grateful that I have family that wants the best for and wants the best for her."
What did Carl think about his mom and stepdad's advice?
The episode ended on a real cliffhanger, but thankfully Carl spoke about the emotional conversation in the Summer House After Show, revealing that he was "shocked" by what went down.
"I didn't think that conversation would go down like that," Carl said. "I thought they'd be like, 'How's planning? How's the wedding? You guys OK?'"
But ultimately, Carl said that it taught him to appreciate his mom and stepdad, who have both experienced heartbreak and divorce. Plus, they weren't just speaking out of concern for Carl alone.
"They do love [Lindsay] and they do care about her," he added.

This assertion was backed up by Kyle Cooke, who has gotten to know Sharon and Lou over the years.
"You can only imagine how hard it was for them to be honest in that moment because it was probably the most brutal feedback that they've ever had to give you," Kyle reflected.
Fans are well aware that Carl called off his November wedding to Lindsay — which was nearly planned by The Real Housewives of Miami's Guedy Abraira — but how did the split really go down?

Who is Carl Radke's dad and mom?
Carl is the son of Sharon and William Radke. During Season 3 of Summer House, Carl opened up about his parent’s divorce and how it impacted him more than he had previously considered. In Season 4, after a date with his now-ex Lindsay, Carl realized that the commitment issues he was experiencing following his parent’s divorce were still seriously affecting him.
“My parents’ divorce last year took a huge toll on me,” Carl explained in an episode. “That’s what makes me so cautious about getting into a long-term relationship with someone like Lindsay, who I care about deeply.”
In August 2020, Carl’s mom, Sharon, remarried. “Mom, I’m so happy for you and Lou,” Carl captioned a throwback photo of himself and Sharon. “Congrats on starting this next chapter in your life. You deserve all the happiness and [love]. You were a beautiful bride before I came around and a beautiful bride today.”
