Captain Glenn Reveals Who He Would — and Wouldn’t — Hire Again from the Season 3 Crew
Captain Glenn Shephard shared which crew member especially impressed him in Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3.
Captain Glenn Shephard definitely had his work cut out for him on this season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. A stained couch, the boat running aground, a wedding — and that only skims the surface of what Captain Glenn had to deal with in Season 3.
For example, the crew also experienced quite a few personnel changes during the charter season. For the first time in Below Deck Sailing Yacht history, Captain Glenn let go of a crew member, Tom Pearson, after the deckhand’s delay in alerting the crew to the anchor dragging while he was on night watch. And after Gabriela Barragan decided to leave her post as second stew, a new deckhand, Barnaby Birkbeck, and a new stew, Scarlett Bentley, were brought in to help the Parsifal III yachties finish the charter season.
Before the Parsifal III crew let Season 3 sail off into the sunset, Andy Cohen read a fan question for Captain Glenn at this season’s reunion, asking if there was anyone he wouldn’t rehire from this crew. “Without the incident, I would work with Tom again,” Captain Glenn replied (clip above). “I don’t know if I could for those reasons… but I think Tom’s a great young guy.”
Captain Glenn also applauded Barnaby and Scarlett, especially since they joined the crew so late in the charter season. “Barnaby and Scarlett coming in at the end and getting dropped in the middle, I think they both did [an] amazing job,” he said. “But I think especially Scarlett handled herself really, really well, because not only was she in a new job, but she had to deal with all the politics and all the romance and all that stuff going back and forth. Ashley [Marti]’s, you know, attraction to Gary and all that. So I really want to commend her.”
“I love all these guys,” he added. “I’m amazed by all you guys. But Scarlett, I know that wasn’t easy for you.”
Captain Glenn ultimately concluded, “I don’t know if I would want to work with Ashley.”
When The Daily Dish caught up with Captain Glenn prior to the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 reunion in May, he was anticipating “some drama” at the virtual sit-down. However, he was most looking forward to just reuniting with his crew. “I think it’ll just be fun to see everyone together and chat and reminisce,” he shared.
Even though Captain Glenn is just doing his “normal job” as the captain of the Parsifal III for the past 13 years, being able to now share his life with the world through Below Deck Sailing Yacht has made it a whole new adventure. “So it’s a job I do every day, been doing it a long time. And all of a sudden it’s on TV, and some of my friends and buddies in the industry and high school, they see me on TV, and it’s kind of interesting. I enjoy it,” he previously told The Daily Dish. “I especially enjoy sharing the concept of people working on superyachts to a younger audience that may be looking for a career path that’s a little different from a typical corporate world, a little more adventurous. I really like that aspect of it.”
Below Deck Sailing Yacht is streaming on Peacock.
